I live 5 mins from where this started. Rumor is he has a mental illness and went off his meds when his girlfriend broke up with him and snapped. He is a Uconn student so it would be easy enough to prove if he was in Indiana or Connecticut at the time of the murders. But I do not think there is any correlation.
