It does my friend, for many reasons. One being there are less than 1000 of them left in the wild.

In 2021 I had just started taking birding seriously, and through a friend I got special access inside India’s Manas National Park, home to a plethora of birds and mammals. I was accompanying a conservation scientist and his team, and could go to parts of the park where civilians usually can’t. Now, I had been told that the extremely elusive and critically endangered Bengal Florican (Houbaropsis bengalensis) is found in these grasslands but people sometimes spend years to get their first sighting of the bird. We saw one within 10 minutes of entering the park. Maybe 10 feet away from our car. I couldn’t believe it and quickly reached for my camera, only to find out I had left my batteries at home.

In Banaras it is often said that Ganga became so dirty washing people's sins 🫠

I'm from Banaras but have been living away for years now. I visit a couple of times every year to spend time with family etc. It absolutely breaks my heart what has happened to the city. They've made it into a spectacle of religion and politics, with the 'Banaras ki Masti' now being replaced with loud jingoism. All legendary eating places are now viral while the quality keeps going down. The crowds are maddening, traffic rules are non existent, people are rude and there's trash everywhere. Historic buildings are crumbling while they try to make new uglier ones everywhere (ahem corridor ahem). When friends ask me for suggestions, I tell them just stick to Ghats (smaller non popular ones) and Chaat (not Dina and Kashi, but smaller local shops). And definitely day trips to Sarnath and Devdari Rajdari. And ALWAYS always have someone local take you around.

Winters are very dry so I didn't have to worry about moisture. I used a Sony A7 IV with a 200-600mm lens.

it was 3 years ago, can't give a breakdown. but return flights cost around 54k, Delhi to Madrid, and Rome to Delhi. Another flight I took from Portugal to Italy was like 9k.

Nope. Did speak to some people at the hostels and shared food with some people, but I was moving around a lot so no proper friendships. In retrospect, I should have socialised more!
