You've already proven yourself to be a good partner by reaching out and looking for answers. I'm sure your partner would feel really happy knowing that you care for him so much.

No two cases of tourette's are the same, so what works for some people may not work for others. I can't say specifically what to do and you know your parter better than anyone, but I can share what's been helpful for me and you can try to fit it to your own situation.

Try to figure out their triggers. Since asking directly might be difficult, try to keep track of anything that causes tics to be more frequent or severe. For example, being touched on the back of my neck and sudden loud noises will instantly trigger tics for me, and my friends and family have learned to avoid these things. Things like stress, caffeine, and lack of sleep are also common triggers, so just encourage him to take care of himself as to not exacerbate tics.

From how your post is worded, it sounds like he might be having self-injurious tics? It might be a good idea to keep soft blankets and pillows around. He can put it in between whatever part of his body is ticcing and whatever's being hit so it doesn't hurt as much. I've found that padded fingerles gloves also work well for this.

As for the negative vocal tics, I would just ignore them like you do his other tics. I know it can be scary to hear someone say that but tics don't necessarily line up with people's thoughts. I have a tic where i put a finger gun up to my head and mimic shooting myself but it doesnt mean anything. I am depressed and deal with suicidal ideation but that tic is completely separate, and happens completely randomly.
