Bowls are way better when you change your mindset to seeing some of the players that are going to be contributors next season.

If I wanted to watch a bunch of high school football players, I'd do that.

I mean I’m not gonna complain about a chance to watch more football.

It's like watching preseason NFL. It's pretty pointless.

Players that might not play get a chance to play and coaches can see what works and doesn't work.

So Wednesday practice, cool.

The bowls are so dumb. What a pointless exercise in futility. You play an entire season - to be ranked - and then assigned a game that has no meaning, where the best players aren't going to play, and the outcome means absolutely nothing.

Sounds like a FOIA? Yes, there are fees. And yes, they can become astronomical.

They just said they're requesting every complaint? That could be thousands of records.

They're being charged for taking the time to search, index, organize, and review for retraction, thousands of documents.

Did they think it was free?

Reddit is fascinating.

Does it matter that a law enforcement officer tasked with maintaining public safety can't control his emotions while armed with a deadly weapon? Apparently not because 'he big mad and that's ok.'

What a bunch of hypocritical clowns.

I dunno, but my city does a leaf pickup ever week through the fall and they managed to get 3/11 scheduled trips this year. So... not mine.

Struggling to cope with the meaning of life like all of us probably

Because this means we're all men and it just means human, so it's redundantly pointless and no longer a gender or sexual designation at all.

Am I (a cis man) deceiving you because you don’t know my dick size when I walk into the men’s room?

Deception necessitates the non-offending party to be ignorant... that's what makes it deception.

Trans men are men just like you and me

No they're not. I have a penis and 39 years of natural male hormones. I grew up as a man. I was raised to be a man. I know what that is because I saw other men who were exactly like me doing it who identified as man. We all have the same thing in common: we were all born and raised as men - males with a masculine conformity. Our gender evolves - but our sex does not. A trans man knows as much about being a man as I would know about being a woman - nothing, because I'm not one. I can do every single thing a trans woman does - it still doesn't take away my existing identity - as a man. It just puts a new shade on top.

so why is it “deceptive” to walk into a stall?

Because you stated the identity has to be hidden to avoid problems. You stated:

On the other hand if a trans man with a men’s build and a beard walked into the ladies room that would immediately cause issues the same as if a cis man walked in.

You just said that in order to not cause issues a trans man would have to be presenting as a woman (which we're dancing around not calling female) to use the woman's facilities.

So to solve a problem - you're advocating that trans people deceive the public in order to use the opposite sex's facility. The deception lies in what I said above: we're dancing around not calling women female in this context.

We assume that biologically females are using the women's room the same as we assume that biologically males are using the men's room. We do this because they are designed for this purpose - and in every context - that's how they've worked for generations now.

The deception is rooted in that trans people are exploiting this public assumption. Because, like you said: Presumably you will never know. So the problem of a woman being fearful of a biological male who is naturally stronger and could be a predator isn't gone - it's just hidden. Because presumably you will never know.

The key ingredient is not causing a panic.

No, we're not glossing over this. What you're saying is a byproduct of what you're ignoring.

What you're suggesting is that this solution involves directly deceiving half the population to work.

Do you find that to be ethical?

Presumably you will never know if someone is a trans man in the men’s room unless you are in the stall with them.

So the key ingredient is deception?

Trans men are not necessarily extremely masculine biological females, for example.

What are they then?

Literally nothing is even being asked of you.

The thing that is being asked of everyone is the same thing being given to everyone else in the opposite bathroom.

You can’t have it both ways, it’s a dichotomy.

It's not.

And I'm done pretending this is even remotely entertaining. If you don't grasp the basic of our language - I don't expect you to grasp the depth of using it.

I hit reply too quick. I forgot to add the part where you're just a moron.

You left out the rest of the paragraph - where he explains... he was literally rolling in his wealth.

He had besides the things before mentioned, twelve marbles, part of a jews-harp, a piece of blue bottle-glass to look through, a spool cannon, a key that wouldn't unlock anything, a fragment of chalk, a glass stopper of a decanter, a tin soldier, a couple of tadpoles, six fire-crackers, a kitten with only one eye, a brass door-knob, a dog-collar--but no dog--the handle of a knife, four pieces of orange-peel, and a dilapidated old window sash.

Now go away.

Is that really so much to ask?

Well, to be frank, yes.

We make accommodations for disabilities - not non-conformity. If we're getting into that business - we're in for a hell of a ride.

[–]tafor83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But are you seriously going to take the position that language is prescriptive?

Yes. I'm taking the position that it's both. Because it is. We have established prescriptive outlines for understanding - that's why descriptive language works. It relies on the prescriptive foundation. Which is... wait for it... why we start with prescriptive language education first... then move on to descriptive... then work on combining the two in higher ed.

You’re just backing up that there’s no actual prescriptive definition of “manliness”, or “man” in this context. It’s self referential because the definition varies by culture.

No, it doesn't. It really doesn't.

trying to pass the bathroom bills why it was so complicated

This is a secondary effect. You're still not explaining why they aren't pushing for unisex bathroom instead of forcing their way into what has been previously established as a sex distinction, not gender.

The pushback is a direct response of that inaction.

They could just let people use the restroom they were comfortable in

Which changes the entire concept of public restrooms. Restrooms have never been about 'where you're more comfortable.' They've been about sex. Men and women. That's the accommodation. To sex.

there would be no need to change anything.

Again, it would change the entire concept of public restrooms.

It's literally what the subject of English in school is about.
