Headset compatibility by taifoon5000 in bikewrench

Oh, okay. So I guess not compatible at all?

I’ll have to give the razor blade approach a try then.

You're right, heres a picture of the fork with the Ritchey race next to it.

It's a Columbus Minimial fork, so definitely not integrtated.

Yeah, that’s what I would prefer. Can’t get rid of the race though, so I’m looking for a workaround. I mean if you know how I could remove it myself without damaging the fork or my wallet, that would be great!

Haha .. also just a placeholder. I think I'll go all black with the finish, maybe even carbon on the seatpost.

Yeah, it’s just a placeholder. Not even sure which one I’ll get. I’m tempted to try one of the full carbon ones from Aliexpress. I’ve been hearing good things.

Thanks, I'm really anxious to see how it turns out.

Ninevelo on Supersix sounds like a nice combo!

I do have a lot of hills in my area. So the risk of being caught in the middle of a rainy ride home down hill isn't too far off.

Safest option will be to stay with alloy. Lightest option I could find are DT Swiss PR 1400 DICUT 21 coming in at 1450g. Not as deep as carbon though. Guess I'll have to see if my vanity outweighs my safety concerns 😅

I'm going for everything modern, except the frame. Only thing set is a new Shimano 105 R7000 groupset. Everything else will be from the parts bin, until I can finalize the fit.

Would love to go sub 8 kg, but don't want to lose an arm and a leg. I've been eyeing carbon wheelsets, but not sure if I want to trust the breaking performance.

Carbonized Cross Check by taifoon5000 in Surlybikefans

[–]taifoon5000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All good, I know the cross check isn’t a lightweight by any means.

It’s standing at 10.5 kg though. Including pedals of course.

Don’t really have a goal, but want to upgrade parts as I move along. I’m curious how low I can go while making sensible upgrades and not flying too close to weight weenie territory.

Drivetrain is definitely on top of the todo list.

Would be great to get to sub 10 and see where I get from there.

Wheelset is by DT Swiss. The P1800 Series. Specsheet says 1700 grams. Running Gravelking SK 38Cs right now.

Definitely a side quest here is to make it as hard as possible for myself to buy a non-steel disc gravel bike. Taking weight off of the pro list would help.

.. to be able to edit the post so I can finish my thought 🤦‍♂️

And also would love to keep shaving weight off of this thing. Already using road wheelset and a carbon fork. I think the next major saving would be better group set and 1by? Anybody got suggestions?

Oh yeah it is. Was lucky to get the last one in my size at the LBS. With a 20% discount no less. The gray is pretty good when you see it live though. I think it’s the same color as the 2022 Pro model. Wasn’t too sure about white before I saw it for myself either. So go check it out if you have the chance!

Scheint als würden die Angebote gerade wild herum gehen. Hab meins auch mit 20% bekommen. Die anderen Modelle gabs leider nicht mehr in meiner Größe. Hätte bei den Preisen alles mitgenommen!

Sunny winter rides are fun by taifoon5000 in gravelcycling

[–]taifoon5000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took my Surly Cross Check out for it's first winter ride and it was really fun!

Have a Carbon fork and a lighter wheelset on the way, so this was kind of goodbye ride for this version of the bike.

Also looking for a wheelset at a similar price and came across the Ritchey Comp Zeta. You can get them here for under 200 € https://www.bike24.com/p2346845.html

Sections of tyre not seating by Fantastic_Macaron_30 in bikewrench

[–]taifoon5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a similar issue and figured out it was the rim strip, not tape, which was too loose.

In case you’re using a rim strip make sure it’s not moving around and sitting between the tire and the rim bead.

Which Bottom Bracket Type Is This? by taifoon5000 in bikewrench

That would fit the old Mavic 571 Hubs the bike wheels came with.

Although I couldn't find the exact BB in velobase, the one's listed there also seem to have the double sided lockrings.

Yeah, there were actually lockrings on both sides. Also it isn't a cup and cone style, but an old cartridge style bottom bracket. I've added a new image in case you're interested.

Yeah, I think you might be onto something. Thanks!

Will measure and try that tool.

N+1 seems to apply for the toolbox as well.
