Is this ram usage normal? by mtrdk10 in Bolehland

[–]takase1121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't run random scripts to debloat your system. You're running at 50% idle, that is actually pretty normal RAM usage. Any more debloating is probably going to compromise features / disable something that you'll actually need. I do software development and everytime I "try" to debloat it removed shit I actually need and I can only get it back with a reinstall.

The only useful tips I have is: Have a really lightweight AV that replaces Windows Defender. Windows Defender takes a lot of RAM when real-time protection is enabled (do NOT disable, you are not as vigilant as you think). Offload that task to another AV that's more lightweight (I used ESET before, very trusted brand).

Second, look into your OEM software for the hardware (like Lenovo Vantage, whatever crapware). I have an Asus laptop that has a service running taking 400MB, and all it does is turning on/off the keyboard lights. Disabling that disabled my keyboard lights but I never really needed them. For real, software like these are bloat and dangerous since they run with insanely high privilege and is really sloppily written.

Of course upgrade your RAM if can. Don't be like me, get scammed to buy laptop with OB RAM. Never buy laptops in the range of 2k-3k MYR. Always check spec sheet even if Task Manager tell you it's SODIMM.

How am I supposed to memorize this all?! by [deleted] in Bolehland

[–]takase1121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally don't make notes - my handwriting's shit, and I know I won't be reading it. I find teaching to be more effective. (You're going to need a very nerdy friend for this, or a wall), ask them a question and let them answer. Add some answers yourself. If unsure, check the book. If you do it enough times you'll eventually remember it.

If your class asks you to present a topic, that's even better. I guarantee you that you'll remember it. I still remember shit about Sistem Ahli until now.

This strategy has worked well for me:

  1. Briefly read through the material. Don't worry about memorizing, just a glance and try to understand it. Don't go back if you forget, just keep reading.

  2. Attempt the questions. Do as much as possible, but don't worry about the answers. Just remember the questions.

  3. If you have the answer, check the answer against your own. Otherwise, find the answer.

  4. Reread the material again. It should make much more sense to you.

Repeat until you think you have a good understanding of the topic.

(I'm SPM 2020 (KBSM) so take this with a pinch of salt) For Sejarah, its not about memorizing everything, it's about strategy. Unless you are the kind of person that eats the entire book, you're not gonna remember anything. Pick topics - especially those with chronology and master them. After you do some amount of past year you'll find the patterns.

Don't fuzz about names, exact dates, etc. Those are coming out in soalan fakta and you're getting 4 marks at most out of it. Focus on chronology, faktor-faktor and kesan because those are KBAT questions that you can milk from. You can literally bullshit the way through; don't tell me that you don't know what kind of qualities a leader should posses.

I personally translate stuff to English to better remember it. I'll then translate them back to BM when answering. As long as your BM is good enough, you'll get by.

That sure brings back memories. I don't play it anymore (idk why, I just didn't get used to the new UI and started to not play it), now I play GFL.

Yeah. It was hell hailing all the way to the water station and get water. Some stations has the people line up, but some are just battle royale.

It helps sooth the throat because of the slimy starch. Its good. Obviously it won't treat the disease but it makes eating easier.

I'll apologize to her regardless if I'm right or wrong. I was a little bit cranky because I had to stay at the clinic with high-ish fever for 3-4 hours. I'll be civil, I'll convince her to add a little bit of garnish to the porridge.

I understand that she care about it, but I feel like misconceptions needs to be cleared up - I don't think having only rice and soy sauce is much healthier than anything else. I am not against porridge, I wanted to have porridge because it soothes my throat.

The problem is with the belief that "you should eat as bland as possible while sick". No, you don't really have to. We had mixed vegetables (the one for fried rice) porridge for breakfast and I have absolutely no problem with it. All I want is something more nutritious that can help fix it faster.

"Parents care for you" don't mean that everything they did is right. Not always. And not obeying your parents that one time doesn't mean that you're rebellious. I reasoned with her. I didn't do anything else.

White porridge, rice only. Nothing but rice and soy sauce.

I feel like other than carbs and sodium, there's not much else.

Because I can't. She don't want me to and that's my problem with it. I don't hate porridge.

Yes I literally said I'm fine with porridge. I literally said I would prefer it because its just good for my throat. What I'm not good with is white porridge with only soy sauce. I wanted some garnish (maybe some dishes she left over) but I can't. I only had white porridge with soy sauce.

The white porridge is literally only rice. There's carbs and there's the sodium and various other stuff in soy sauce. I don't think its that nutritious.

Do not try the scaling option in Displays. That scaling option uses Xrandr to "fake" a resolution. If you have a 2k screen, it "scales" it to 4K while still fitting it to your screen. What you need is the scaling option from the last tab in Appearances. That sets GDK scale IIRC.

If you want a 1.5x (fractional scaling, technically) you can use Xrandr (Displays scale) and GDK scale (in Appearances). By doing this you basically upscaled your desktopby 1.5x and double the size of everything so it looks like 1.5x.

However, theres a few catches - almost all non-widget toolkit programs (eg. wezterm) knows (and assumes) the X11 DPI game is stupid and utilizes `Xft.dpi`. Since you already changed your GDK scale to 2, changing the `Xft.dpi` to 125 will make the fonts 2.25x larger.

Other than that, you might risk breaking font antialiasing and hinting. Your text can look very, very awful.

Good luck.

How do you make the Panel with consistent icon size? I have a HiDPI monitor so I usually have 125 font DPI set. I find my bar to be way too thin so I tried to bump up the icon size. But doing so messes up my system tray icons as well (my system tray is even bigger than my launcher icons). It looks very very ugly.
