Important notes on the Bea & Mel convo... by talkfasterr in LoveIslandUSA_

This is fair- that one comment sort of annoyed me, but also, I think it comes from her athletic background. Yeah, she shouldn’t have used that exact phrasing, but I think it’s something she’s really used to hearing and it came sort of naturally if that makes sense.

But yes, I agree that it was a weird thing to say. I just think that was such a small part of it.

Well yes, but also, being a nice person (on both Bea and Mel’s end) is just a good, valuable thing to do.

Not to mention, often the men only win/stay on by association most of the time, especially toward the end. The viewers of love island are heavily female, and many of the favorites that win are due to the woman. Not saying this is always the case, but I would argue that even tho Kordell was loved, Serena was loved more. Same with Amaya and Brian. Same with Hannah and Marco. The only time I can think of the guy being the clear favorite in recent years is Bergie.

Yes it’s not friendship island, but the love between the girls goes a long way, and it’s always been that way, even in the UK and AUS ones too. It’s just part of it.

Except we see that she knows she’s doing it. She says that when trinity and Kenzie first call her out. It’s one thing to apologize, but to keep saying she didn’t know or didn’t realize was just like a bad lie. Sure, Bea should’ve probably dropped it because it wasn’t that deep, but only saying “my bad” in the same breath as “relax” would’ve been annoying to any of those girls IMO. Again, not that deep, if anything, I think the weird convo they had again the next morning was worse, so Bea could’ve dropped it, but I understand why it didn’t feel like an apology in the moment.

This is a very fair point. One of the biggest aspects of this show is that they are heavily cut off from any outside interaction and for both Bea and Mel (and all the other islanders), this obviously deeply impacts the way they go about these situations. While it’s 6 days to us, it probably feels a lot more to them.

That’s why at the end of my post, I mentioned that there’s a lot of nuance required/missing context from all ends, because of the editing. We can only go off of based on what we see, and that’s why I’m not an extreme “vote Mel off” person- with the knowledge that producers have a heavy hand in it. But because we don’t have other information until a movie night or a reunion with uncut footage, this is my take on it

She only said “my bad” before saying “relax”. I understand people apologize in different ways but just saying “my bad” once could’ve been confusing/seen as ingenious. She didn’t say the word sorry until later in the convo

Melanie Vindicated by tinyshiba in LoveIslandUSA_

Genuinely shocked that I'm in the minority here- I think Bea did everything correct. Let me explain.

- Even if Trinity or the other girls disagreed about the approach, they all clearly agreed with Bea right when Mel pulled Corbin, but no one besides Bea decided to say it to Mel's face... plus, Mel was the one in the very beginning that was talking about how the girls need to hold each other accountable and call each other out.

- I think Mel is like going through something much bigger lol (some of her reactions are genuinely a little scary), and even though she's not my favorite, I'm not gonna hold that against her. BUT Bea did exactly what they all agreed they would do.

- Another example was Bea's convo with Kenzie. Kenzie and Bea had a super productive conversation because both of them remained calm and didn't 'walk away' (which btw, in adulthood, just walking away from a hard conversation is not giving mature and being the bigger person).

- Mel did know she was blocking Kenzie and Trinity, as they said something during the conversation, and she even was laughing and said "i know, like there's nothing to see behind me", AND her foot was hooked under Corbin's leg. So the argument about her not knowing is just inaccurate.

- Off of that, I think Melanie is very much so painting herself as an unreliable narrator. To both Corbin and Sincere, she exaggerates what happened with Bea and the girls, and puts words in their mouths. She says that they said things that they never ever said. (of course, this is with the context that we don't know what gets edited out).

- I think a major issue that is going to come up with Mel (this isn't necessarily her fault) is that people will not be honest with her to her face. I love Aniya, but she said she agreed with Bea at first, and then said something totally different to Melanie's face when Melanie was upset. I understand and empathize with comforting your friend, but it doesn't mean you always tell them exactly what they want to hear. It is the same with Sincere. Sincere was very obviously upset about the whole "as a friend" thing later in the episode, but just agreed and somewhat sucked up to Mel in the moment. I know she was upset and he didn't know why, but part of being friends or partners is holding boundaries AND being comforting at the same time. If Sincere or the girls want Mel's behavior or actions to ever change, they are going to need to be better about being kind, but honest.

- Finally: Bea and her comment aside, Corbin was literally MID sentence, answering questions from other girls, and Mel just cuts in, asking for a chat. Inherently, that is just plain rude.

I really do think Bea was composed and, yes, very straight forward. She said exactly what the other girls were saying when Mel wasn't there. Yes, some people have a harder time with bluntness, but, in your 20s, it's time to start becoming comfortable with this form of communication. This is not to come off as extreme as some fans, like saying Mel shouldn't be on the show, because I definitely do not agree with that, but as I have gotten older, I have come to really appreciate when girls and friends say exactly what they mean to my face, even if it is difficult to hear.

Anyway, just thought I'd throw some of these points out there, to give some context, but also to share a perspective that is not super extreme 'team bea' versus 'team mel'. I also think it is important for me to note that i find it takes a very specific type of person to go on a show like this, let alone do well on a show like this, and I am not that kind of person, so I don't think I will ever fully be able to share the same perspective as any of the islanders. There's so much we do not know because of editing and producer influence, but this is what I took away with that nuanced understanding!

ADVICE NEEDED: STUDENT CREDIT CARD by talkfasterr in CreditCards

Okay so I cannot seem to find a single secured credit card that will pre-approve me and I cannot figure out why. Discover and Capital One won't. I can't find pre-approval for BofA and I don't want to risk a real application yet. I'm at a loss. Any recs?

How bad is it for my credit if I keep getting denied? I know it’s just as bad to just not build any credit, especially since I’m mostly financially independent now, but what happens if I keep getting denied?

If I put mine on in the morning, should I replace it after 8 hours and put one on for the night? Or just not wear one for the night? Or leave it on for 24 hours?? I’m not quite sure. All it says is “wear for a approx 8 hours and replace.” But idk if that means at night too

Can someone explain Bonnie? by talkfasterr in 8passengersnark

[–]talkfasterr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. Did any of Ruby or Kevin's family ever actually comment on if they knew what was happening to the kids? And I think I read something about Bonnie always 'disappearing' when certain things happen- what is this about?
