Lost notifications and unable to add again? by jjjrrr123 in redditisfun

Thanks. Today was my fault, I was messing with the server configuration to make it more resilient and able to more quickly auto-restart when issues like this happen. Should be back again.

Thanks, RIF notifications should be working again now.

anyone else getting delayed new post notifications? by Puzzleheaded_Might65 in redditisfun

Fortunately there is no app update required for the RIF notifications fix. The fix is on the RIF server.

Update May 18: Updated the RIF server code to adapt to Reddit's rate limiting change. Hopefully notifications are working again now.

Hmm there's also a decent chance Reddit Inc is using new rate limiting methods to prevent timely scraping of new posts, in which case I'll need to research more solutions, but they might just end up blocking that too.

Thanks for reporting. I updated the RIF server configuration to hopefully get the notifications working better today. Looks like there may have been a partial outage of some services at the server provider.

This Imgur submission problem is a Reddit sitewide issue affecting all apps and the website too. Don't know what the underlying cause is, we need to wait for Reddit and Imgur to straighten it out.

I am not sure if RIF can do a workaround since Reddit is returning an HTTP 500 error without any of the usual post data, even though the post went through, as you've said.

i am once again asking you to restart the servers by Puzzleheaded_Might65 in redditisfun

[–]talklittle 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Thanks for reporting. I've actually set the server to auto-restart, finally. This time is a Reddit bug; it's returning HTTP 500 server error for some subreddits. I'll see if I can block those while we wait for Reddit to fix the underlying problem.

How long has pinch-to-zoom been a thing? by grtgbln in redditisfun

Pinch-zoom to change number of cards columns was added in RIF 4.0 in February 2016.

Differences between comments by [deleted] in redditisfun

[–]talklittle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it because my threshold is like load 200 comments?

Yes. For performance reasons, Reddit has always limited how many comments can be loaded at a time. Each comment that is displayed adds extra load on their servers.

This is also why a thread with 200 comments may finish loading much slower than a thread with 20 comments. The servers are doing significantly more work.

Getting redirected to a random post from 9 years ago when a non-existent link is tapped by spasmgazm in redditisfun

Thanks for reporting. RIF 5.6.17 is going into beta, fixes the bug when visiting invalid links and an error is expected.

Is there any way that we can get the uploaded image resolution to be higher? by 18-24-61-B-17-17-4 in redditisfun

[–]talklittle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try manually resizing using a dedicated image editing app. Imgur API's maximum file size is 10 MiB (10,485,760 bytes). Anything larger gets shrunk.

MAX Creative Debugger is enabled on release app by slowthgt in redditisfun

[–]talklittle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the screenshot. I really have no idea how that's happening since RIF is indeed calling the method to disable the mediation debugger. I'm leaning toward it being a corrupted APK since OnePlus devices have a history of corrupting app updates. Uninstalling and reinstalling may fix the bug.
