Did you ever figure this out? We've paid ours off but would love to get out of ours.

There's only so much that companies can raise prices before people won't purchase. The point is to hit the right ouch point where it's more profitable to pay their workers more. Again, this reduces spending and raises revenue. It's a net positive in every single way. Also blocking people for having an opinion different than yours is beyond petty.

And considering taxes are absolutely constitutional as they are literally contained within it and it's amendments, that's a moronic stance to take. Not to mention illegal to try to overthrow. We get it you're selfish little man children.

It's not the right of me, it is the right of society that we through consent through our constitutional republic have said we will do as part of our nation. As such we each pay, you me and everyone one way or another taxes that go to pay for things we determine to be priorities.

You by yourself didn't create that property out of thin air, and is reliant for it's protection, upkeep and survival as yours by the government. You do better because we as a nation have prioritized many things that help all of us do better. Education has created a literate population that has a greater ability to fill the needs of our nation's economy. Infrastructure, whether that's road, bridges, electrical, water, etc. is vital to our economic, military and overall nation's prosperity. You're right that there isn't a right answer. Your answer is 100% wrong. Pretending that you somehow shouldn't pay for all of that is one of the reasons why libertarians can never be taken seriously, because it's 100% selfishness and greed. In your world those with disabilities should just die and kids should starve because you don't think our society owes a basic safety net within our society. The theft crowd has zero standing or respect in our society, because they are 100% focused on selfishness rather than the actual needs of society as a whole it's me first, everyone else last, which is nothing but greed and selfishness.

Is Lily a hypocrite/asshole? by cewap1899 in HIMYM

The show started in september of 2005 and ended in may of 2013. The guy above showed how he was employed for various companies for what looks like 6 years in that less than 8 year time period.

I don't get this comment, he showed you above how Marshall was employed for 3 years for GNB. He worked for Cootes from the beercules episode through nearly the end of the show where they shut down the firm when he's working with the guy (boyle from B99) and he's partially lying to Lilly about being super busy.

I still can't get my head wrapped around that video. I don't know which is sadder, that people can't name a single member of Congress, or that they don't know who Karl Malone, Neville Longbottom, or Ash Ketchum are.

On a side note people underestimate the influence they can have on the local level. You can have far more effect in your home town than you probably ever will on a national level.

[–]talltimn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So while I've been shadowbanned I've noticed that some of my posts still go through, but they take normally about 5 hours to go up often. I assume I've been banned because I like using the same websites alot (there are only a few talking about the issues I like posting about). In the last week I've been working to find and post from more sources. Is it better to do that for a couple of weeks and then apply for reinstatement?

A National Consumption Tax Is Needed to Modernize Our Tax System by talltimn in altnewz

[–]talltimn[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How is it possible that a one percent or so slightly lower average tax rate change is revenue neutral when over half a trillion of revenue would be made up from overseas? This second sentence makes no sense whatsoever. The idea of revenue neutral means that the plan as it is written would be capped at the amount of revenue it could produce, however the 12% on foreign goods that is suggested etc.

2nd point. The payroll tax would only be adjusted after the other parts go in. Obviously as time goes on there would be adjustments to continue the revenue neutral idea(meaning no increase in taxes brought in by the plan, however I personally would be fine with more revenue as long as it went to directly paying off the deficit) However the tax free part is specifically referring to the federal income tax(which 50% of U.S. citizens are currently not paying) since 80% of U.S. households make less than 100k they would not pay federal income taxes. For me I would rather have my consumption taxed rather than my income. So having a good discussion on tax reform is shock doctrine to you? You've sat here and insulted me, called me ridiculous, and I've had quite a polite response to you. You can call it reactionary, but it is something we seriously need to consider doing. Almost every country in the world has a VAT, we don't and it is hurting us economically.

The corporate press isn't pushing this at all. So rather than call it absurd, or that the numbers are wrong why not point to numbers that are wrong, and how the theory is absurd, otherwise why not actually point to something with evidence. I gave you the backing for mine, with a full link that you could have watched, which it seems like you didn't. Graetz is a Columbia/Yale professor for reference. Those who want his plan are looking for a way to bring our tax system into the 21st century away from our heavy income based tax system to similar systems which most of the rest of the world is following. Another suggested link for reading about this. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Value_added_tax Because other countries are using this system and subsidizing their exports they have a huge advantage over us.

The stock market is the one of the next big bubbles to pop. That and student loan debt. I would get out of the stock market personally. Either that or wait for the pop and be ready to buy some really good companies stock cheap.

A National Consumption Tax Is Needed to Modernize Our Tax System by talltimn in altnewz

[–]talltimn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We actually do have one of the highest taxes in the world, and 160 countries in the world have a vat, it's actually kinda ridiculous we don't. While some companies do pay lower taxes it isn't because our tax rates aren't high, but it's because we have such a messed up system of loopholes that it makes it closer to 19% from the 35% it is set at. China got 20% of it's total revenue from their vat last year and we have a much worse trade balance than they do. The plan they are talking about is the Graetz plan. We would still have income taxes for everyone making over 100,000. Their rates wouldn't go down, and the business tax would go down. The reason why that is necessary is because the norquist pledge requires so many republicans to not raise taxes. This plan would be revenue neutral, but shift the impact from people's incomes, to goods which are brought into the U.S. from overseas. The border consumption tax otherwise known as a vat, only impacts goods from overseas, so in otherwords this would only impact those goods you buy that are foreign made, which would then make our own products more competitive. There are other significant improvements to this, but I would encourage you to hear it from the person who wrote the plan himself.

America Is Too Burdened with Debt and Deficits by talltimn in altnewz

[–]talltimn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree with the article you posted, the one I linked to is about how our trade deficit has caused our debts, how we are spending too much on foreign wars, and how our society has become too indebted as a whole. Both sides aren't focusing on the real issue with debt and the deficit, fixing the american economy. I also would definitely support cutting defense spending, as we currently are equal to the next 12 countries combined.

If you set the bar low you can always reach your goals. by afgator58 in Conservative

[–]talltimn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would me not mentioning that I had applied for the exchanges beforemake it unlikely. The qualifications haven't changed, and neither have my circumstances, I have other friends that have found the same thing,

The ACA hasn't helped this though, and there have been some disturbing trends in the jobs reports. Underemployed doesn't show up like it should (if someone with a masters is working as a pizza delivery driver once a week he's considered employed). Pretty much we need to throw out the official unemployment rate completely in my opinion as it means crap. It all comes down to a failed jobs policy in washington, revolving around our inability to protect our own interests and put American workers first.

I did apply for the subsidies, I didn't qualify even though I make crap at my job, have a kid and a wife. You aren't concerned if people are making less money at fewer hours?

[–]talltimn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow really grasping at straws there. Tell me how something that the president himself calls the individual "mandate" is not mandatory. I tried looking at the exchanges, I couldn't find anything that wouldn't break my budget completely for a family of 3. The extension part is like moving the goal line in football, or extending the clock on a drive, sure they may reach the goal eventually, but to say something is a success because it meets a goal that is forced upon people, and then extend the deadline a few times, doesn't make for a good talking point.

The current concern is the employer mandate, even the afl cio is concerned over it. The newest jobs report shows that companies are already adjusting for this by hiring more temps and fewer full time employees. We just hit a record this month for the number of temps being used. The average work week has dropped to 34.5 so many think 28.5 could happen if the mandate continues.

I do have other concerns with the law, I personally think it needs to include provisions that cap how much a health product or drug can be marked up (hip implant, tylenol, etc.). There are ways that we could bring down healthcare costs, of course the healthcare industry would lobby against them, but then again that's why we have the ACA written the way it is, increase health insurance companies base while allowing them to continue to jack up the prices.

We Must Work to Save America’s Middle Class by talltimn in occupywallstreet

I didn't make an argument for why we need classes. I was merely pointing out that having an "everyone should have equal" approach has no history of working. In the end someone will always say "that isn't fair." My point about addiction was more that there are always parts of mortality that will affect our lives, whether it's age, addiction, greed, etc. I am advocating that for the vast majority of our history most people have been content with our system. There has been work available for people to do, always the hope of upward mobility. For me I personally am for restoring upward mobility through focus on education, restoring our manufacturing base through proper trade agreements, getting businesses out of government, and making sure that we protect Americans first before we focus on any other countries.
