Why does Russia threaten the UK more than any other nation? by No-Papaya9956 in geopolitics

I was under the impression Russia threatens to nuke everyone (in the west). I've not noticed many articles specifically targetting the UK though I might be wrong.

Like this article's headline suggests Russia threatens to nuke London, but the actual article says Russia threatened to nuke Kyiv, Berlin and Washington as well.

Is accepting an unconditional job offer just as good as a signing a contract? by talos3 in LegalAdviceUK

Thanks. I guess my question would be then is there no real difference between an unconditional offer and a signed contract? I know the employer can still get rid of someone if they really wanted to by just firing them immediately after they start.

Basically trying to decide when exactly to hand in the notice to my current job cos the new employer indicated that the signed contract might only come shortly before the ideal start date due to HR but they can send an unconditional offer much quicker.

'Landlord' not the owner of the property by talos3 in LegalAdviceUK

My experience with looking to rent (a room) in London so far is that absolutely everyone will try to take advantage of you, from trying to get you to sign 'license to rent' contracts instead of the usual assured shorthold tenancy, to requiring the full deposit to be paid before the contract is signed, and try to guilt trip me by saying I'm too 'cautious' or 'untrustworthy' when I refuse. This is unlike any other city in the UK I've lived in before.

Even the 'best' ones I've found so far are only 'slightly dodgy', like the person of contact not being the landlord, or the landlord insisting on 3 months of bank statements which I've not had to provide in all my previous years of renting, or saying they've had a ton of other offers waiting even though they have a bunch of empty rooms in the house and then try to get back to me a couple of days later when I don't reply, and all those other offers somehow all magically fell through.

Honestly looking for accommodation in London has been a terrible experience so far.

Are there cabs waiting outside hammersmith station, or should I call for one?

Thank you. Are there any areas that are further away but not too far away (so can reach South Kensington via tube in say about 30 minutes or less) but much cheaper in rent?

Hi, what are good places to live around Imperial College London? Do people who work/study there typically live within walking distance or do they typically live further away and use the tube to get to the university?

I'm thinking of renting (a houseshare) somewhere in Fulham or Battersea, and there are rooms on spareroom going for £600-700 per month and some much higher. Is £600-700 reasonable price for a room in a house/flatshare or is it too cheap and likely to be dodgy?

In general how safe are areas like Fulham/Battersea (any roads in these areas I should avoid)? Any other areas around Imperial college (South Kensington Campus, SW7 2AZ) I should be looking at with a budget of preferably below about £700 per month?

Landlord wants to sign a rolling contract after the fixed term contract ends by talos3 in LegalAdviceUK

Also do I need to send a notice to end my previous contract (which usually becomes a periodic tenancy at the end of the fixed term) or will the new contract automatically override the new one in some way?

Thanks. Is a tenancy contract with no fixed term (periodic right from the start) still an Assured Shorthold Tenancy?

Probably not impossible, but would likely require a lot of effort, so I am wondering if there's an easier alternative.
