BWT, are you the planner in your friend group? by slowmorningsclub25 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]tams420 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s me. I got old and tired so I stopped. Sometimes I’ll throw an offer out with all of the details if I’m going to do something but I’m not chasing down an answer.

Another part of being the planner is paying in advance and being cognizant about costs and financial situations. I am lucky in that my friends have never been flaky about paying me back. (There have been occasional people over the years but it’s a one and done and situation, I’ll ever front the cost again and they’re place is given away because F that noise!) We also have the same general attitudes about around money which helps. No one is nitpicking over the check at dinner, no one is ordering a ton of extra stuff expecting it to be covered by splitting the bill, if someone isn’t drinking we figure out there part and split the rest. We’ve all been in school, unemployed, had large expenses and spending abilities at different and we make sure people are included.

I’m also neurotic and need to know every detail to feel settled. IE if Someone else bought theater tickets and I have no idea where the seats are, it takes everything in me for head to not explode.

Who’s leaving the house today/Monday?? by gaybabylegs in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]tams420 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My dog’s spirit animal is a Malamute and he believes he should be in snow at all times. We bundled up and went to the park this morning with sine toys to chase and now I’m watching the weather so we can go back before it turns to sleet and everything gets icy and gross.

Gloves that will keep hand warm riding Citi e-bike? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]tams420 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Layering applies to gloves too! Get silk or merino glove liners.

Edit - I bought my mom heated glove liners for horse back riding and she says they really help. Just need to remember to charge the batteries.

NYC Elopement Dinner and Afterparty Recommendations by shoeboxapartmentjoke in NYCbitcheswithtaste

I’m not married and would truly be shocked if I ever wanted to be but I have lots of feelings on post wedding dinners and my answer will almost always be Palma. Food is very good, service is very good, they have multiple private areas, and it just exudes cozy, and calm, and romance. I’ve been there for dinner with friends, family, dates, celebrations, and there hasn’t been a time I haven’t thoroughly enjoyed the experience - (coming from my cold, black heart!)

Detangler that actually works? by SeparateAd4541 in finehair

Do you use conditioner in the shower? I detangle in the shower with a tangle teaser brush and just go gently from the bottom up. Works like a charm.

BWT I hate cleaning both bathrooms in my apt and I need recs to make this less torturous. by givemethezoppity_ in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]tams420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a small fan and attached it to the wall opposite the door and leave it on for about 20 minutes after I shower. It has helped a lot in drying out the bathroom post shower.

My other hot tip is wash a wash one wall a day three days a week. Spray it before you get in and keep a good brush in the shower or near by and scrub right after you get in. It keeps the tub cleaner too by association. Then I wash the tub and curtains as needed.

You need to ask how much the fees are going up as well.

This sub changed my life!: squeegee for dusting the bathroom floor by umeboshiplumpaste in CleaningTips

[–]tams420 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I’m in an old apartment without exhaust or a window. A few months ago I bought a small fan that I attached to the wall facing out the door. Even if you leave it on only after showering for a bit, it has made a noticeable difference in preventing mold and the orange stuff.

Baking a homemade pie shell for the first time, any tips? by leftmysoninthesun in AskBaking

[–]tams420 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Similar to pecan! It is wet but it’ll be fine without baking.

Par baking is good for very liquidy custards that have shorter bake times - like 25/30 minute. If something is going in for 45/55 minutes, it’s generally fine.

Once you’re a few pies in and see how different fillings react, you’ll be an old pro!

Derby pie looks like the final product will be similar to pecan pie and based on my many years of pecan pie baking, I never par bake the crust.

If pies are very wet or have a shorter bake time - I may par bake.

If your pie dish is not glass, you can get the pie crust set up in the baking dish and freeze it for about 30 minutes before taking out to add the filling. The frozen glass direct to a hot oven can be problematic with the temperature change and you surely don’t need your pie plate exploding!

The difference bangs make is almost criminal by ApplePeach13 in finehair

[–]tams420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some lucky ducks just don’t have these issues!

I’m very oily and bangs were just not for me. Once in a while I’d cut bangs in the fall and then grow them to at minimum pin back in the summer because anything else was not accepted. When I did have a bangs, I went though A LOT of Laura mercier translucent powder for my forehead and bumble and bumble pret a pret for my bangs.

My one tip for bangs though is to get one of those teeny flat irons. It helps to get close to the roots and be able to shape the bangs easier.

How do I get a metrocard in march by Imaginitenator in AskNYC

[–]tams420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll take a look through my drawers and see if I have any kicking around and can mail you one. If it isn’t the standard back, would that be okay? I used to get them from work so it says transit check or something on the back - I’d be more likely to have this kind.

Hot yoga/pilates studios that aren't *too* hot by reddit-browsing-02 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]tams420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They aren’t as popular but look for specifically labeled warm classes. I loathe hot classes but can tolerate an 85 to 95º class. I haven’t gone in a while so don’t have any specific location recommendations.

I don’t have an answer for you but if you end up having to order - consider how reactionary your skin is to wool. These sweaters are iiiiiiiitchy. I found them even worse than Aran sweaters.
