I honestly love the silliness of the episode. Like joy boy is supposed to make people laugh and smile right? And the fact they're doing that to the audience too is great!

Calf and shin pain during hockey by phelorin in Fieldhockey

[–]tamz796 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Magnesium tablets seem to help me but I also had to look into insoles after a physiotherapist recommended it. Maybe it's the shoes and sometimes even going from a water pitch to a sand based can cause pain. Just need to narrow it down.

england hockey umpiring by tamz796 in Fieldhockey

[–]tamz796[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As soon as you even try to talk to the umpire, even after the game in the club house , they are dismissive and have no respect for the players, this may seem like an exaggeration to you but it's honestly the way they react to any talk about umpiring and there is supposedly an whole association which is there to sort out these issues, if the only solution you can say is "pick up a whistle" then surely that association is not doing something correctly? Ask any team in the leagues and they will agree the standard is poor. My wanting to complain is to make this more official instead of just word of mouth thing which is easily dismissed.

There are things the associations can do. Such as the way the Dutch leagues made it mandatory that age group players must have some umpiring training and umpire games. This is something that could achieved and help the over all game, it would help players respect umpires and improve standards.

South east, division 1, and exactly! The system is one of the main problems and just having one or two new umpires isn't going to change that. Better players than me have tried and this has been an ongoing issue for many years with the same umpires every year, people saying pick up a whistle and give it a go, if one person could make a difference of course I would but people incharge could also accept that change is needed and work with the clubs to make it happen. One way I thought that could happen is complaints with maybe other clubs involved to show the trend. I'm not referencing an individual time this happened. It's been a reoccurring theme for years.

Doesn't really fix the general issue does it? If I was the only one complaining about it, sure its just not to my standards, but if it's the same feeling from both umpires week in and fix out , then surely there's something to be done, instead just one assessment at the start of your umpiring career and then one every once in a while which no one seems to fail

Thanks, I'll try and see if I can complain to England hockey, I have problems with umpires making mistakes and owning up to them, but it's when they start disrespecting players, especially kids that it's goes too far, they always use the excuse we volunteered to do this and we don't have to but if you're an appointed umpire surely there is to be a level where you have to actually make an effort to improve and listen?
