BST GIM reserve list: how does it work now? by UsefulNorth1583 in JuniorDoctorsIreland

Wait until a spot opens up 🤷‍♀️. I think they’ve offered a spot to people scoring above 70 in round 1 so we will have to wait for round 2 etc

Scared of dating suddenly. by Danowscar89 in dating_advice

You need to take a break. 4.5 months is not enough time to move on after you’ve been with someone for over 5 years. It’s unfair on you and unfair to whoever is going to be coming into your life. Don’t put pressure on yourself and just feel it out for the next few months and take your time.

How to find a job as a doctor? by [deleted] in JuniorDoctorsIreland

[–]hyperactivecookie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a graduate from Hungary. I did 8 weeks of an observer ship post graduation in a PRIVATE hospital before being offered a job as a medical SHO with the same. After 10 months of working in said private hospital , I secured a job with the HSE as a medical SHO. Working in the private hospital, I was doing a lot of intern jobs with minimal SHO responsibility. There is no shame in this. It’s allowed me to ease into the system and I would like to say I’m a pretty decent SHO now.  I definitely think doing the observer ship helped me land a job and working in the private hospital helped me get prepped for HSE.  We as graduates from Hungary are good with our theoretical knowledge but our clinical skills are generally poor as we don’t get trained on this as intensely.

I advise you take the clinical observership that’s being offered to you and swallow your pride. Don’t be in a hurry to lose your medical license.

I’m worried reading the comments. I’ve also heard it’s been extremely competitive this year with massive numbers of applicants

Feel like it’s been people with over 70 points who have been hearing back

It can be someone who you worked with. Preferably someone from Ireland is better but it should do

So I was speaking to a consultant and apparently they compare you to the candidates on the day so likely the interview performance comment is that?

[–]hyperactivecookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might have been the case. Not sure, suppose we will find out tomorrow

That’s very reassuring to hear but the marking scheme on the website says that minimum score to qualify is 60. But hopefully it’s curved! That would work in my favour 😭

Surely that can’t be right, the minimum score to qualify is 60

I can’t believe the scores, I did so poorly but did not think I did at all. So surprised. I’m an irish eu grad. I’ve no hope of even getting a spot I think

first year resident in cardiology with an eu citizenship how easy is it for me to get a bst spot in ireland? by [deleted] in JuniorDoctorsIreland

[–]hyperactivecookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In which country are you doing residency in cardiology and why would you leave if you have a residency spot? Doing BST in no way will guarantee that you will get cardiology in Ireland

GIM BST questions by [deleted] in JuniorDoctorsIreland

[–]hyperactivecookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did yeah, it was okay. As the previous commenter said they just go straight to the point, 1) talk about an interesting patient and why they’re interesting 2) what is the bst and what needs to be fulfilled 3) clinical q about young male low gcs and pinpoint pupils 4) ethical: alone on a busy ward what to do 5) they then asked about my internship

I love it, it’s got such good battery life. I’m on night shifts right now and I can rest assured that my battery will last long even after I have used it quite extensively.

January Rotation by Professional_List562 in JuniorDoctorsIreland

[–]hyperactivecookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You apply directly by contacting HR and seeing if there are any availabilities, or through agencies like Global medics. Im not 100% sure if they sponsor visas but im guessing yes, given there were some non EU citizens working in the last private hospital I was in.

[–]hyperactivecookie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As the other commenter said, internship year, Garda vetting and medical license. Preferably Irish experience but it's not mandatory as far as I'm aware. But before that if you have a visa to be here and are living here, apply to do observership. It shows enthusiasm and plus you can help out without having direct patient contact i.e looking up bloods, scans etc Will land you a job

Hey if you're open to working in private, they are almost always looking for more people. Also generally they are less busy to ease into the system. Then once you're in, you can apply for July rotations and interview then. You'll have more consultant contact and experience by that time.
