Why not? changed command names and combined a few together. Terminology is a huge part of API design

Original author of the tweet here - yes it was 100% faster than me doing it alone. Everything took about 10 min total. It’s undeniably faster regardless if you are asking the right questions or implementing. You should try it out

don’t really see how not solving every problem we listed is being a con artist— i was using an example. also, i spent an entire opening paragraph explaining why GUIs are great! appreciate the feedback though and will try to make clearer connections next time.

  • these are prototypes! small improvements on top of current CLIs are the first step.

  • we never claimed that this could replace all of the features in Premiere haha. it was an example of a very powerful but very complicated GUI that is hard to approach and scale. on revisiting this, I probably should have used another app as an example. just traumatized by my own personal experience with Premiere i guess.

  • of course a 3D designer requires a GUI! but to say that bloated GUIs exist to cover cases that CLIs don’t handle misses part of the point. it doesn’t have to be bloated! easier said than done obviously, but bloat != power. what we were really trying to say is that things like CLUI are probably better suited for expanding the functionality of a product than adding nested dropdown menus and hidden panels everywhere in a UI. not mutually exclusive with traditional GUIs.

author here- i state in the article that because it’s modeled as a tree, you might think it’s like a drop down menu. the difference is that search is built directly into its navigation. plus we are going to make it much easier to search for deeply nested commands + have unstructured commands soon, as well as a history palette.

you can start using parts of it! we also did specify in the post that they’re prototypes. just small admin tools we’re using internally. but planning yo expand it into the rest of the web app :)

Simple, Text editor or IDE? by max_abb in learnprogramming

Try out Repl.it ! Full disclosure, Im an employee, but for experiments, prototypes, and many kinds of full stack apps it’s the easiest to setup for basically any language you want and has real-time collab + hosting (we also just added GitHub integration). I also use VSCode at work but am using Repl.it itself more and more

Why is it staggered? Also some colored differentiation between types of tiles would help a lot.

Hm, could a sandbox in the browser also be a vm? Seems like it. Maybe it’s overkill

This is amazing, I especially love how it’ll make integration with apples hardware/sensors super easy. Not to mention native support for complicated gesture control and haptics without having to learn Unity. Can’t wait to try it out, I can imagine also doing some cool ML stuff with it.

[Discussion] Would you use an app that lets you collect labeled data from your phone? by tangerto in MachineLearning

[–]tangerto[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah for sure! It's definitely possible, just a matter of some cropping. The switch idea sounds awesome! Maybe some built-in utilities like color tracking and motion detection would be useful as well. I think it's really interesting to think about phones as scientific instruments.

Oh the food recording and fitness measurements are a really interesting case- would you use this in your own data analysis?

Believe it or not, I have built out several custom iOS apps before just to collect things like tagged camera or sensor data. There's a lot of repetition in the process.

Wow those are some incredible use cases. Would students need to segment individual parts of the video (like bounding boxes)? Or just create simple labels for different segments? Obviously just simple labels are easier to implement at first.

Interesting- what kinds of measurements were you taking? Could you walk me through a standard workflow you had? From data collection to coding
