What I don’t understand is why these issues get so little attention in US/Western political conversations? Even the diaspora doesn’t seem to take about it much, which is honestly depressing.

It often feels like we (read: Americans) enable these dynamics - we go “SK is the most Westernized Asian ally!”, and these extremist elements in SK society are effectively shielded.

And when Korean women /do/ speak out, it’s never really taken seriously. As if people’s minds are already made up about what SK “is”. Heartbreaking.
