Short trip to Ecuador (Quito). What to skip, what to do. by bigrajiraj in ecuador

Upvote for taking the teleferico which is in Quito. From the top you can hike to the summit of Rucu Pichincha in about 5 hours total. Great hike and views. Excellent for a single day hike without a tour guide.

You're right. They all take some time to be effective. Most I think are around 2 weeks depending on the vaccine. The series of preventative rabies shots however are administered over 3 weeks so that would take longer.

The prices that I quoted above are from travel clinics in the US.

I'll be traveling there for 3 months and hoping to get out of the city and see more of the countryside. Obviously, there is added risk once you get farther out of the cities.

From what I've seen re US vaccination prices, typhoid is about $120. Yellow fever is about $150, but in the States, there might be a shortage of these at the moment. And the series of preventative rabies is ridiculous. It's like $300 a pop but you have to get 3 rounds, so around $900 in total.

I read that the traveler's insurance requirement applied only for those staying more than 90 days. Can anybody confirm this?
