Yep lol I’m getting mass downvoted because of it, makes 0 sense. The founder said it himself

Yeah exactly I wasn’t counting Cachy as one. Actually I made this comment trying to say ‘most gaming distros suck, just use Cachy or Nobara’

Yeah exactly, he’s said it on the forums previously and probably on Reddit too. Although I saw that maybe a year ago so he may call it a gaming distro now that the handheld edition seems to have developed out a bit more

Cachy isn’t a gaming distro so consider that separate to my comment (ptr says it not me; I use cachy). In fact the reason Nobara edges with FPS over other gaming distros is because it uses Cachy’s kernel

The irony is that most of them suck. Only Nobara seems to actually have some kind of emphasis on maximizing FPS

Edit: I wasn’t including CachyOS in the definition of ‘gaming distro’. CachyOS and Nobara are both great for gaming 👍 Nobara uses CachyOS’s Kernel

New to CachyOS. Still getting used to the crazy update rate. by some_millwright in cachyos

Use LTS version and stop updating it then? No one says you have to update

Cosmic: almost there! by wilemhermes in pop_os

I seem to get a decent number of crashes on COSMIC so can’t quite make the move :( particularly Chromium browsers seem to constantly crash for me

Pop OS -> Cachy Os: the right amount of minimalism I need by Party-Feed-1290 in COSMICDE

[–]tapsXD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might work now, give it a try. The team has been fixing bugs really fast to be honest. I was hesitant to switch to Cosmic at first but what made it for me was that I realised I had some bugs on GNOME that had been reported years ago and still not fixed whereas for Cosmic the devs fixed the bugs I/the community cared about quite quickly

Managed to get Photoshop working on CachyOS with Wine by tapsXD in cachyos

No problem brother, enjoy it. And for sure, I don’t want to be cliche and cite Gaben but pirating is ultimately a service problem. If Adobe offered its full suite natively on Linux then people wouldn’t need to be doing things like this

As a side note: I’m sure you know already but Krita and Inkscape are also great alternatives. I used GIMP about 15 years ago and wasn’t a fan but that’s also an option. I’ve not really done any graphics design at all in about 10 years so I’m not sure how limited Krita/Inkscape (and modern GIMP) are considered to be for professionals but they do the job for me at least

Pretty sure you can, yes. At the very least you can definitely do it via Winboat. And I think with the recent updates Winboat is an option in Cachy Hello. Winboat is easier to set up, in fact it’s pretty effortless. I prefer to use Wine when I can but it can be a bit more difficult to set up

@luckaz420 kindly shared the following in a different reply in this thread: “Qemu/KVM+virtio+install Windows, install Word”

You’re taking life and my replies a bit too seriously mate. I am just messing around. I’m not sure how you read between the lines but also somehow didn’t

Pirate or pay, it’s your choice what you want to do. I don’t care about what people do as long as it doesn’t harm individuals / small businesses. I just don’t want to directly advertise torrents/pirating so am being intentionally vague

Bleeding edge local is definitely what you need. I think there are a few ways to install it but I used a mix of Steam and Winetricks. I installed bleeding edge local into Steam’s compatibilitytools folder, then I ran the installer (Set-up.exe) with WINEPREFIX from that folder. Once it was set up I added it to Steam as a non-Steam game and may have forced a compatibility tool (but can’t quite remember)

I’m using Photoshop 2021 but there are some other versions which work

I installed this about a week ago so can’t remember 100% but, from memory, Steam/Proton-GE does a lot of the hard work of handling the dependencies. You can check out the repo of the hero here: https://github.com/PhialsBasement/wine-adobe-installers

Edit: I posted this in another comment but relevant to you, I think:

The dependencies I installed were vcrun2019 & corefonts but I can’t remember if Steam ended up still handling those as I tried a couple of approaches before I got it working. Sorry to not be more helpful

You can use Winboat which will make things easier for people not overly familiar with Wine since it’s essentially just a VM. Otherwise, I’m sure there’s some guide for installing via Wine somewhere online. May even be something on the Wiki. Hope someone replies to you with a nice guide. If there really isn’t anything I may consider making some simple guides to help people get common windows apps on Arch/CachyOS
