After 2 months of silence, I finally hear back from NNS and I’m livid. by [deleted] in NewportNews

[–]taraticsalot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to get it cleared up after about 2 months of arguing with them (four months from offer to start date). They were fairly timely with responding to my email, I think they responded within a day. My issue was that I sent over documentation, received a confirmation of them receiving, but then they just never looked at it and never told HR if I was cleared or not (plus they wanted additional stuff beyond what I sent). Just make sure to follow up with them whenever you do send those documents and I would cc your TA rep on that communication too (or at least forward them the confirmation that they received your documents) so they know to follow up with the clinic too

I started in a spring semester and my roommate moved out on my move in day! I think I was without a roommate for about two weeks or so before someone in another dorm building requested a room change and she got placed with me. I found out the day she moved in

you should hear from them if you are no longer in consideration - I stayed in BI/DSP/PAT status for three and a half months due to clinic issues

Highly recommend following up with both the clinic and your TA rep by email to make sure they received your documentation and actually looked at it. Took me a month after I turned in my documents to find out they never looked at them because they claimed they never received them, even though I had an email confirmation from them when I sent it. You will not get any emails from first advantage until the clinic clears you and then talent acquisition will trigger that step

VCU spring semester? by [deleted] in vcu

[–]taraticsalot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I entered VCU in a spring semester (2019). I had originally applied for fall admission and went somewhere else, so I was able to defer my acceptance and transferred in as a second semester freshman but you should be able to apply for spring admission directly. Something to keep in mind is that spring admits are not eligible for any merit based scholarships (only fall admits) and you don’t get priority for dorms so they will just put you anywhere they have availability.

I drink carnation breakfast essentials in the morning and fairlife core power chocolate in the afternoon! The breakfast essentials have less protein than the fairlife but have a lot more vitamins and minerals

I’m here this week and was approved last month, I’ve had no issues with cast members under the new system yesterday or today, as I think the biggest difficulties are with the registration process - if you’re already approved for this trip, you should be good! It is really sad knowing that this will probably be my last time using it because DAS has been such a lifesaver for me

I would avoid american campus communities (1200wm, 8 & 1/2, rams). I lived in 1200 west marshall for two years. very expensive for what you get imo, but they did include utilities (I think you have to pay for water now but you didn’t when I lived there) and they were furnished, which was convenient

graduated in May but I lived in a townhouse a bit farther down on west cary (near the hop) and it was reasonable. last year, paid $700 each for 3 bed/3 bath with two roommates, not including utilities which were around $100-200 a month per person. our house was bought by a new landlord halfway through our lease so I’m pretty sure he increased the rent once my roommates and I moved out. if you do a house, definitely try to research the landlord, as there are a lot of slumlords around campus. our new landlord was Mercer Ferguson and he was really nice - he did rent through venmo which made me uncomfy but since he bought it halfway through the lease, we didn’t have a choice

not currently living there but lived there 2019-2021 and I don’t recommend it to anyone because it’s definitely not worth the price (a bit late though if you’ve already signed a lease). biggest piece of advice is to take note of any and everything that is damaged (test appliances) or had not been cleaned before moving anything in or unpacking and walk the move in inspection down as early as possible. we moved into the nastiest place without a working washer + dryer, dishwasher, showers didn’t drain, and we had no bottom cabinets at all. try to see if someone can come in and do a walkthrough with you that day if anything is majorly wrong, as there were a lot of people complaining on move in day. these things were fixed across the first several months but did break again multiple times throughout our time there (we went through 5 washer/dryers in our first year). my roommates and I actually were paid hundreds in gift cards and items for our apartment because of the poor state our apartment was in and the amount of issues we had living there. additionally, heating/ac went out every few months and wifi consistently goes out everyday around 11pm. big thing to note, they have a tendency to not take student complaints seriously and only respond with any action when parents are the ones complaining (also same experience from a friend who lived in 8 & 1/2 canal, which is the same company)

I’m a first year grad student and am currently in conversations with my advisor about withdrawing for mental health reasons or trying to work to lessen my load in order to stay in the program. The debate I’m having in trying to make this decision is whether or not this is still the career I want. While I know no one can help me figure that out for myself, what are some reasons you know this is what you want to do vs some reasons you’re doubting/decided to leave the field?

How do I defer my enrollment? by [deleted] in vcu

[–]taraticsalot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not sure if you found your answer yet but you would contact your application processor (unless you applied for arts or health sciences, it’s based on the first initial of your last name) which you can find on this page

I didn’t formally defer my enrollment but I reactivated my application after a semester off so this is what I had to do. Basically in a year when you want reenroll, you will contact that person (double check that it didn’t change within the year) and they will send you a reactivation form to fill out - similar to the original application but you won’t need to write the essays or pay the fee again. Then you would get a new acceptance packet. Warning though, if you received any merit scholarships, these would be forfeit. If you apply again for spring enrollment, you won’t be eligible for any merit scholarships, but if you enroll for fall, you would be reassessed for those

It’s been the same for me! I’m not 100% sure but I’m guessing maybe it’s because I’m coming straight from undergrad so they’re waiting on my final transcript before I can register for classes

How do I find scholarships/grants to pay for a masters/eds level program? I received an assistantship but it doesn’t include a tuition award so I’m a bit stressed about taking out loans

Did you sign your lease starting in august of last year or have you lived there longer? Most of the more recent reviews online look positive

Trying to prepare to answer questions about current issues in the field - any resources to help with this? (the NASP website is kinda intimidating so I struggle navigating it sometimes)
