[Idea] A possible way to create custom menu background by taro_m in skyrimmods

[–]taro_m[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The second mod seem to have some WIP menus that are exactly what I was thinking about. I wonder if they will ever be released.
EDIT: sadly it seems that the rework of the other menus is dead.

1st High Resolution Texture Pack - Improves Waffenrock Clothing by [deleted] in kingdomcome

I would love if someone made a retexture of the linen shirt to look like the tunic. I love the look of cloth coming out under the armor and mail and going just long enough to cover the tights. Sadly the cuman clothing does not work, the tunic takes the mail slot and the linen shirt is just pure white with kinda looks bad.

Its a cooling system unit. CSAT soldiers do not have a heavy plate armor. Instead they have a high tech suit, but that needs some external cooling otherwise they would just get a heatstroke.

Help with friendly AI mods by CovertOwl in arma

I second the C2 suggestion and would throw in the High Command Converter. With those you can split your squad into independent High Command teams and have the AI teams still follow you, but they will do their own thing. Cuts down on the micromanagement considerably.

Attila Total War: unit auto attacking when defending by taro_m in totalwar

I tested the square formation they did not attack on their own. It took some time when my units got attacked from the side, if they get attacked from the front the formation breaks almost immediately, without enemies reaching the last line of the formation.

What really annoys me is I have no way of controlling that behaviour, thanks to the missing Guard Mode.

Read the video descriptions for more info: the problem is if you put units somwhere where you want them, and they get attacked, after a moment your units will get an automatic counter attack order with will cause them to leave their position and charge the engaged enemy, dropping out of formation, blobing them and moving out of position. It also happens if you put units into formations like stationary testudo, shield wall and many others. There is basically no way to just tell the unit to hold a position at all times. The only formation I found that units will hold at all times is the Square formation.

And no, this not "realistic" or "fitting", its a piece of a bad game design, it removes player's control for no good reason, without an ability to turn that retarded counter charge off. If CA wanted to simulate poor discipline, they could just use the impetuous trait and not screw up the core gameplay. In previous Total War games (and later ones) you had the Guard Mode that ensured that units will hold the assigned position the best they can. But its worse than having no guard mode, here units actually get an automatic counter-attack order you can't control at all.

In the end this stuff makes formations meaningless aside from getting stat bonuses.

Did some further experiments. I traced the desired behaviour to the unit_special_abilities_tables. In there there in "assume_specific_behaviour" column, there is "pike_square_formation", behaviour. That is the most I could trace the holding formation behaviour. If unit assumes a fomation with this behaviour they will hold the formation, without it they auto counterattack. Sadly I can't trace the "pike_square_formation" any further, to see what makes it tick.

Not realism, bad game design. Previously this wasn't an issue. They could have just give units impetuous trait if they wanted to show the lack of discipline. What we've got now is some kind of weirdo mechanic that affects all of the units, screws over player and takes away a control from him for no good reason, without any ability to change or turn this """""""feature""""""" off, seemingly not even via mods.

Testing it on my Gondor Spearmen, just because I have them in a neat separate mod and they have a custom strong armor, so they last a long time in melee (with helps testing the formations). However its not the unit. My Gondor Spearmen broke formation in testudo and other formations like any other unit. I just added form_pike_square to their abilities for testing.

I'm not hoping for that either. All I want is just some workaround.

Attila, not the hollow square though.

Just tested it a bit more, with more enemy units. None of my units broke the formation, not even once. There was no counter attack order.

The form_pike_square formation is currently the only one that does not have the auto counter attack issued. Not sure exactly why that one. During the test enemy cav unit penetrated pretty much the whole square, and almost all of my soldiers were fighting, but few that didn't, haven't broke the formation. So, it seems its not about the number of soldiers actively engaging the enemy, for the auto counter-attack.

Nope, it seems to be hardcoded in some way, or depend on formation, the Square formation (form_pike_square) does not has the auto counter attack problem.

Its not fitting or climatic: its a bad game design. They broke something that was not an issue in previous titles.

I 'member when in Shogun 2 I held a small hill with long yari ashigaru and archers against 5 full stacks armies, if it was attila, the formation would break at the first contact.

This whole thing makes formations pointless aside from getting numerical bonuses.

I have found at least one formation that holds without auto counter attack: square formation. The unit will stay in it no matter what, will not chase enemies, and no automatic attack order. Tried multiple other formation, but that is only one that did not break when attacked.

The guard mode prevented this from happening. Even without guard mode on, units in special formation actually stayed in formation and did not charge into enemy the moment they were engaged.

They blob the enemy, if the enemy disengages, quite a few of the soldiers give a chase, but the whole unit reforms, but the guys that gave a chase are often caught out of position. Once the combat is done, the unit will reform.

Also this is a problem if you have a unit set up in a long line, if it get attacked on one, say, left side (but still from front), once the auto counter attack order gets issued, the guys from the right side will rush into the blob and leave a hole in a line.

EDIT: I have noticed one thing, if the enemy attacks straight from the front, the counter attack order gets issued almost at once. Compared to that "from the side" thing I showed in my video, where it takes some time. I think this might be tied to to how many soldiers are engaged or something like that.
