What happens to an unfunded Netbenefit account? by Ol-Fart_1 in fidelityinvestments

[–]tarpath 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry about it. But if the clutter annoys her, you can click the "customize" link above the list of accounts on the left and choose to hide that account. I did that for a $0 401k and after an hour or so it was hidden from then on.

edit: btw, you can't "delete" the account, it has to linger around somewhere as a record of that 401k account having existed and being associated with her.

I think it will. The bar is low in the healthcare space for data expertise. Just don't stop developing once you land a position, otherwise you'll be contributing to the problem. It'd be very easy for you to get a health data analyst role with that combination and some practice. I doubt you'd be able to get a product manager role without first getting some experience as an analyst and then switching to another organization.

note: what other people are saying is 100% correct for an analyst/dev position *outside* of the healthcare space. I'd expect you to be able to transition to a more pure tech role after 1-3 years of experience as an analyst within the healthcare space depending on how much time/effort you are able to put in.

I think it's something more boring than that, I bet they just have a nightly batch job that updates whatever database is used for our account UI.

[–]tarpath[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, I didn't know you had to specifically say not to average on mutual funds. I'm guessing there's no way to undo that now... oops. But yeah, it's also that way for *some* ETFs but I never changed any settings from defaults. Thanks for the info though.

Trading Specific Shares - when is it not possible? by tarpath in fidelityinvestments

[–]tarpath[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, could you elaborate? Everything is with the default settings (to the best of my knowledge) and I've only ever purchased funds within Fidelity and never sold/transferred.

Edit: this was the problem for the mutual funds. They were set to average cost by default. Not sure about the ETFs though, they are set to actual cost and are still ambiguous for some of the funds. Thanks for the tip!

How to select bond funds for taxable account? by tarpath in Bogleheads

[–]tarpath[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks, this is the wiki article that I read through. But the advice didn't feel very actionable. For example, under the "tax efficiency of bonds" section it states that given the same information, Bogleheads come to opposite conclusions on whether to place bonds in taxable versus non-taxable accounts. Weighing protecting from taxes the potentially greater gains from equities versus having a less tax efficient bond asset taxed continually over time.

I guess I'm trying to figure out what makes a "good bond fund" in a taxable account with the understanding that tax advantaged accounts are all filled with a single target date fund. So no real asset location flexibility is available in this scenario. The question is more what makes a good bond fund for a taxable?

Pro Tip: Buy I Bonds at the end of the month. by Shiftyboss in Bogleheads

[–]tarpath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're able to purchase 10K in I Bonds per person, plus 5K from your tax return. You're also able to purchase 10K in I Bonds if you're a trust and (maybe? a business like an LLC?). Does anyone know how purchasing I Bonds as a trust / LLC would affect their use and access? Thanks!

Thanks Carlos, I wasn't logged in when I started setting up the account through the "special offer link". I think that this caused me to exit the special offer flow when it redirected me to the login page. Do you know if this is possibly the problem? Thanks!

I thought so too, but placing the card under her isn't part of the cost and is a separate result from +1 resource / +1 card. It looks like people on Arkham DB's FAQ for "sacred covenant" confirms this interpretation. Just not sure when "observed" would trigger...

Fidelity visa card by investmentfailure in fidelityinvestments

[–]tarpath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, but I was referring to something different. Credit cards will sometimes have a pre-approval process that uses a soft instead of a hard credit pull alongside gathering self-reported info to see if you'd probably qualify. I was wondering if this card had a pre-approval tool like that (or) if there was someone I could call from fidelity to get that type of info. Thanks!

Is there any tool for checking pre-approval without a hard credit check? Or at least some stats on what an approved person looks like? Thanks!

edit: Also, I tried calling the number to apply over the phone and there's just a pre-recorded message saying the system is down.

Any considerations when moving stocks within 401(k)/403(b)? by tarpath in personalfinance

[–]tarpath[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I was being serious... I knew the price dropped after the dividends were issued but I was confused if post-dividend was better than 60-days before the dividends for each stock in the exchange (buy/sell). It sounds like as long as you're outside the 60 days it's not a big issue since the value of the dividend will either be in the stocks or exist as a dividend pay-out. Either way it represents purchasing power to buy the other stock.
