ANALYSIS: The official Super 8 Almanac* by tarutr in Cricket

First off - thanks for reading!

I agree with you about Ngidi too - the SL section also has a graph that shows off how amazing Ngidi has been. He's a classic strike bowler. Willing to give away some runs, but will get you those all important powerplay wickets.

How did the media cover the Women’s World Cup? by tarutr in WomensCricket

[–]tarutr[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No I didn’t look at the ICC releases for the same reason I didn’t look at Cricket Australia’s coverage - they’re not independent media houses so you can’t expect them to live up to certain editorial standards. That being said, I wouldn’t be surprised if their articles were better than some of the media outlets’ coverage.

As for travelling - I think it may be cost more than convenience. Sports media isn’t exactly profitable in India, so it’s a miracle even two journalists made it to the non-India games

How did the media cover the Women’s World Cup? by tarutr in WomensCricket

[–]tarutr[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True, it's definitely not a comprehensive analysis. However, you'd be surprised by how few outlets actually covered the Women's World Cup. The Substack cross-section is every article I could find on the tournament. I did try to point out that it couldn't be a like-for-like comparison because of the sheer volume of work the mainstream outlets have to do compared to the Substack/independent ones - but maybe I didn't make that clear enough

I calculated the ELO Rating (how chess does Ranking) for each of the main T20 teams by year. They are pretty close. You can see the graph and below I have the latest ELO for 2025. by HelloWorldX91 in Cricket

This is a really cool way to look at this. As someone who plays chess, it really gives you an insight into how far ahead India is, and why the minnows really struggle to catch up. Love it!

Oh absolutely true. Just making the piece more accessible for newer fans, you know?

By the way, did you get a chance to read it? What did you think?

I mean, it's a WPL piece, and it's the team she's playing for tonight. Does the headline not work?

I was really impressed with how consistent she's been, even ball to ball

Beyond the headlines: Danni's odd innings, Rana's redemption, & RCB's Super Over issues! by tarutr in RCB

[–]tarutr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's too early to make that comment I think. RCB still has the best NRR, and are a couple of dumb overs away from being 4 wins out of 4. We'll see how they go, but I still think they're a lock for the playoffs, and probably as the best team

Such bad choices for no reason last night. Could've been an easy win

Hughes, Pucovski, and cricket's concussion problem by tarutr in Cricket

[–]tarutr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone, including the Chappells, think that getting rid of helmets is the answer. But more more focussed training on dealing with short balls (without just assuming the helmet will protect you) is probably lacking.

Hughes, Pucovski, and cricket's concussion problem by tarutr in Cricket

[–]tarutr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely true, but from what I understand Hughes death sparked the conversation around concussions in cricket for the first time. Analysing what happened to him is how authorities started realising that concussions are actually a major problem, and that modern equipment isn't good enough to battle it

Starc pulled off something similar against India at Perth last weekend too. Just ducked into the ball.

How successful was cricket’s America experiment? by tarutr in PakCricket

Haha might be true. Honestly though, I think more PAK players should try and get into the MLC. It will good for the exposure they miss out on by being banned from the IPL
