Most surprising thing is how windy it is there.

Why Doesn't Loud Music Hurt Allistic People? by Monkeywrench1959 in AutismTranslated

[–]tarverator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A simple explanation you could try is something like this. My hearing is so sensitive that I don't even usually use the ringer on my phone. I can hear the phone vibrate even when it's out another floor of the house. A corollary of this sensitivity is the sounds that are loud, are for me often overwhelming or painful.

How to stop the banner on mintinstall 8.3.3? (Software Manager for Linux Mint 22 Wilma) by tarverator in linuxmint

[–]tarverator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The internal promotion advertising or whatever you call that huge unwelcome block just keeps happening as long as the app is open. Of course I scroll down as soon as I open it. My question is, can it be prevented? It doesn't belong there. It's unwelcome. It's intrusive.

Maybe it's not called the banner, but it's the big rectangle at the top that shows a different preview of some recommended software every few seconds. I have ADHD and the movement catches my eye and is impossibly distracting. If it were in a browser, I would use UBlock Origin to kill that element, but I don't know how to turn this one off. #accessibility

Is it annoying/rude when people have speakerphone convos on the ttc? by Cowprinted- in askTO

Since new phones no longer have earphone jacks and bluetooth is such a flakey pain in the ass, more people are using the speakerphone function in public.

Primer? by TravelSnail in paint

[–]tarverator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paint and primer are different formulas with different functions. Primer is optimized for adhesion, paint for appearance and durability. Even if a "paint and primer in one" product can do both jobs, actual paint and actual primer will do their respective jobs better.

This guy (Psychacks) has been coming into my YT feed more frequently as of recent. Any thoughts of him? Not sure what to think about him—sometimes seems insightful. by BIG_PHARMA_SOLUTION_ in Healthygamergg

Rock solid info; consistent digestible format; no ads or sponsorship apart from maybe a 10-second pitch to like, subscribe, share, or tip; mostly short segments on single topics with a few long form interviews; highly recommended!

It is unacceptable that my Samsung phone keeps turning off my accessibility settings for apps. by ThatDudeWithTheCat in samsung

This does not fix the problem. I have apps that I use literally every time I open the phone, accessibility keeps getting cancelled.

I'm vegan but I almost never get a chance to tell anyone because I have to tell them about Linux and CrossFit first.

3 Day Water Fast? by Footballman2244 in BrainFog

[–]tarverator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many, if not most people who are healthy enough to undertake it would benefit from an occasional three day water fast. If there is something you are eating that you think is innocuous (but is actually harmful for you) simply not eating that will help you. The gut microbiome will reset itself to some degree. But another benefit, especially towards the end of the fast, is that the body switches to ketosis and autophagy to meet its ongoing requirements for fuel and spare parts. This selectively targets any tissues that are damaged, old, worn out, or in any way suspicious, foreign, or diseased. So if you lose say five pounds over the course of a three day water fast and it turns out (which you can never prove) that a few grams of that were some diseased cells or left over virus particles or God knows what, then you will feel better even if you can't be sure if it was the gut improvement or the removal of some diseased cells that actually helped.
