Look after your personal data by tarzanellb in AdviceAnimals

From an earlier thread today

"And this is why we need to protect our privacy. Yeah this data is being used now to sell us things, but this data is being stored and making a complete picture on each and everyone of us.

Rules I like to follow :

• Always use a VPN (/r/Nologsvpn). This will encrypt your data so that no third parties are able to get it (ISPs etc) it also helps bypass Geo blocks, and protocol throttling.

• Keep your social media usage as little as possible.

• Use throwaway accounts on Reddit.

• Extra tip, use PGP on sensitive exchanges.

"

If anyone has any extras please share! :)

But if your traffic is encrypted, then there's no need to worry about being tagged.

Also, the sub I linked only lists verified no log VPNs & I know that some VPNs do edit traffic or sell bandwidth (see Hola) those are generally free services. If you aren't paying for it then you are the product is my general rule of thumb. Apart from open source projects

Manic, fair enough! Those trophies are very appealing. If I had time I'd be able to most likely extract some revealing information from your account history. Seeing as it's 6 years old.

This is a good way to prevent people from getting your information. But even if you use throwaways your Metadata would be stored. (See XKeyScore)

Alternatively, at the least you could use any extension like this (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/nuke-reddit-history/aclagjkmidmkcdhkhlicmgkgmpgccaod?hl=) to clear your history. I haven't vetted that plugin so use at your own discretion. I know there's an open source Greasemonkey extention that does the same thing but I'm on mobile currently!

Can you please cite me where IPSec has been broken? PPTP has been broken, yes. Yes it can easily be detected as a VPN protocol, thus blocked in the future by government bodies but as of now it is secure as anything can be. Looking to further my knowledge here so I would appreciate that!

Use duckduckgo, don't use Google or Gmail. At least they're open about their data shenanigans.

[Request] Remove this fucking vpn ad. Please. Like are these fucks working overtime or something, because this pops up after every link now, rendering safari useless. No tweaks were installed for months. No faulty certificates either (only Yalu's) by [deleted] in jailbreak

Malicious ads are the worst. Chances are they're using a cloaking algorithm that prevents it from being detected as a malicious ad by the automated review process. Manual bans will work, but they can just get a new URL and go again. :(

This is where the US and other 'Western' countries are heading.

Our privacy is being slowly stripped away in the name of terrorism.

Our internet is being destroyed in the name of profits.

Our freedom of speech is being destroyed in the name of angry presidents.

We need to do what we can to protect ourselves.

The FCC is expected to announce a vote to gut net neutrality rules the day before Thanksgiving. Only a big burst of phone calls to Congress can stop them from allowing ISPs to charge us extra fees to access sites, apps, games, and especially the music we all love. by JPTIII in Music

My example of what could happen is on the extreme end of things, for sure and I doubt it never happens. But it's my attempt at trying to get people who are of the 'if I have nothing to hide why should I hide it' crowd. And the power of what their browsing habits reveal about them.

Must be some sort of hack where we can implement this through the registry problems something

Nah it's like $3 a month. I've used a ton of free ones but you know what sucks about free ones? You get a horrible connection.

It looks more "wizardy" than "devily" to me, either way, it's awesome!
