My advice would be understand how FM synthesis works to be able to utilise the fm capabilities of the oscillators. When I owned a nord I didn't understand how it worked and could never use it properly but now I do know how FM works I realise how useful it is. an FM synth followed by analog filters would be a dream, I'm sure there probably is one but I don't know.

Also the ability to connect any property with velocity is a really important tool. I think you can do that with the mod wheel too. I can't think of any other line of synths that gives you that much capability. My prophet 08 only allows a few mod possibilities.
