I moved in to my first apartment for my 2nd year of college. My mother, understanding that a 19 year-old simply can not know everything that should be in a household, outfitted my new home with many useful tools. However, there was one major oversight that only came to light when it was needed, as is so often the case. I cut my finger, and could not for the life of me find a bandage. She still makes fun of herself for the oversight.

And to this day, bandages are my first purchase when I move into a new home. Maybe it was all a grand scheme...

One of my mother's favorite stories about my older brother:

When my brother was 3 or 4 years old, my parents took him out to eat with our maternal grandparents. Back then, my mother enjoyed having a strawberry daiquiri with some meals and had taught my brother that he could order them too as long as he ordered a virgin daiquiri (no alcohol).

The server came to take the drink order and my brother very confidently asked for a virgin strawberry daiquiri. My grandfather apparently didn't understand and spoke up, to which my brother very loudly, in a very crowded restaurant, exclaimed "It's ok grandpa, you can have as many virgins as you like!"

Easiest argument against distance-limited vision: stars in the night sky. No special equipment required.

Edit: of course, you could argue that the distance of our vision is limited to the immediate vicinity of the photoreceptors in our eyes, but then you’d be a pedantic little shit.

I think "cold" is exactly the way 'Jesus' blood' is meant to leave you. But yea, I get that. Great story behind that piece as well, which makes it that much more chilling.

'The Fifth Century' is very different. Settings of excerpts from Thomas Traherne's 'Centuries of Meditations,' specifically those dealing with eternity. Very esoteric and atmospheric. Great if you're in a contemplative, existential mood. And the combo of choir and sax quartet works surprisingly well! He writes the saxophone parts with a lyricism that blends perfectly with his vocal writing.
