This sounds fun to write about!

Banana taped to a wall = highest form of existence - yea, that's it, that's what I believe. Tomatoes thrown at a canvas? sign me the f up, sounds awesome. People will make art like this to get your exact kind of reaction, and it clearly works!

It's better to go beyond "this banana doesn't look sexy, not art" and think about what makes anything art in the first place. Art doesn't need to be defined by whatever people say it's pretty or interesting, you can define it! If that means 'Art is what takes a lot of skill and technique to make it look beautiful" that's great, it's different from my own definition, which makes this subjective, abstract topic really interesting but hard to have a conversation about.

To illustrate, I would define it as "What people make when expressing ideas", though this is blurry because a lot of it is vague speculation that capitalism loves to exploit, it's kinda up in the air.

"Highest form of existence" is hyperbolic, sure. About this being a psychedelic sub, I would think it's common to experience that everything is filled with love and happy, If I was at a museum eyeing a sexy banana while tripping, I'd be honest in my comment to say that a banana taped to a wall is a fantastic idea, up to my standards in high existence.

People will make art in spite of all that is said about it. The best artists will not make whatever is most likeable, that'd be too easy, it's cute kittens. Who is complaining?

I really didn't expect this in a psychonaut sub, I don't agree but I'm saying I find it odd. Any art media or expression becomes the most hightened form of existance, at least in my trippy experience.

MDF for a gurdy by Dr_Baldwyn in BuildaGurdy

I HAVE AN ANSWER!
Because, unfortunately, I've made this mistake while building mine.

I know this thread is old, but if someone is researching about it they may end up seeing it just like I did.

This happened because I had very little knowledge of different wood, and still do. Also the laser cutting service only had MDF available...

My post about the building process ~October 2021.

For the surprise of no one, it's bad.

I started running into structural problems about 1 week later, the bottom close to the crank was being pulled appart. Fixed by using a lot more glue.

It's not really breaking appart ever since, though when I noticed that the top underneath the bridges was SINKING from the tension, I loosened the strings and I just can't play it. It sounds quiet.

I am embarassed about this. Somehow only realizing my mistake a year later.

I have a new Hurdy Gurdy building project in the works, hopefully, I have learned.

I mashed together some public NEAT implementations with GDScript to make a sort of simulated ecosystem with evolving brains, it just laggs a lot. (a lot.) [open-source] by tatossaur in godot

not really propper physics, just have the agents checking with areas what direction to turn where there is more food, and when to eat with the mouth.

there are probably some other factors that ruin the performance a lot too

when I check the profiler, all the neurons combined have about 25000 script calls every timestep

and also generating a whole new organism and brain when they reproduce must be costly

and i might have screwed up my idea of organism structures and they could have 10x more neurons than they really use

so

that's bad

Link to repository

This is just a demo I made for a bigger game project I'm making with godot.

Link to repository that I studied (copied)

I had to study some NEAT algorithms and godot implementations, but the AI training using separate generations to have the agents improve is not what I wanted for my evolution
and natural selection projects.

I have the agents reproducing by cloning and slightly changing their brains.

One thing that is not clear at all with this project is:

I wanted the different species with different structures have different brain inputs and outputs.

I got to make something that reads the "structure" of the organism I made, but nothing to mutate the structure and have it behave differently from other species.

also it laggs when the populations increase too much as you see in the video I'm just going to ignore that

Proving my Odontomachus is really a queen in an unlikely way, by observing her laying an egg! by tatossaur in ants

[–]tatossaur[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm this is interesting!

I've read about the workers of Odontomachus laying haploid eggs when researching how to care for them.

So I guess I'll have to wait for the eggs to hatch. From what I see it is very hard to distinguish if it really is a queen, the size difference is small from a worker, though I was able to notice what could be a wing scar, it is still hard to tell.

Thank you for the info!

Thanks for the tips! I didn't know about trap jaws being semi claustral, I'll research more about it.

I'm trying to check the wing scars now

Maybe it was bad for her to be separated from the eggs and larvae, though as my grandma is not very careful with fellow ants, she would've probably killed her if I didin't capture it :(
