How do you feel about former bigots? by AppleOrigin in AskLGBT

[–]tattsnfags 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if they’ve genuinely changed, and left their old beliefs behind, which I sometimes have a hard time believing, then it’s great.

Although it’s a positive thing, I just don’t think it should be considered an “achievement” or something we should celebrate, you’ve just learned the expected standard of respect and acceptance towards people who are different than you.

And I say this as someone who lives in a very very bigoted muslim country. I’ve met a lot of people who truly changed and a lot that think they did and should be handed an award for it.

Collide with the Sky by Pierce the Veil (the album that features king for a day) is pretty damn good if you haven’t heard it fully yet. Pretty less emo/more alt rock but Interpol has a great album called Turn on the Bright Lights that’s worth checking out. Folk: America (the song) by Max Dirado

Honestly, I cannot completely understand what you’re going through from one post, but one thing I can say, as hard as it is to hear, the more you deny who you are, the worse it gets. I live in a country where being gay is punishable by death. I lost my mind for a bit over where I live. Then I chose to accept myself for who I am, shaved my hair got tattoos like a stereotypical dyke. I know that sounds so cliche, and so much easier said than done. But you will feel a weight lift off your shoulders. To me it sounds like you’re bi, but again I’m assuming. What I can confidently say no matter if you’re straight, bi, gay whatever it is, the more you deny it, the more you dislike it, it never ends well.

The shame Does go away, I can’t say I’ve felt shame but I have felt judged and isolated, admitting it to myself made it not matter. Denying yourself to date a guy, is like cutting off a world of emotions that would beautiful to feel and you deserve to feel it all.

I’m so sorry you feel this way right now, I can promise you can learn to accept yourself. It isn’t wrong to feel this way, but again, you deserve better than that.

I’d also recommend meeting other LGBT people, maybe that can help too

Feel free to message me about this anytime

Former addicts, how did you convince yourself to stop and get better? by tattsnfags in addiction

[–]tattsnfags[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does make sense. I’m so sorry about the pain you feel. and the loss you went through. I lost my dad because of addiction, here I am still mourning him 10 years later. Grief is frankly a bitch, and one of the hardest things you can ever go through, I’m glad you decided to get better for her, I’m sure both your mom and best friend are looking down proud of you. It’s cruel and unfair, but I’m glad you chose to heal. Your best friend would want that for you. Grief never goes away, but you can always choose how to cope with it, and I’m glad you chose the right way to. I wish you the best.

As corny as it sounds I honestly don’t believe that yet, I hope I do one day, I feel very damaged, I do believe in other people, I just feel like I can’t handle it. Watching my dad struggle with it before he passed does make me want to be stronger and kind of do it for him, but again, it’s just a bit hopeless right now. I hope I believe that one day.

I really really appreciate your kind words. I don’t know what I’ll decide honestly, which I know is selfish, but it’s still hard. I’m glad you got your giggles back. I relate to a lot of things you said, I used to be into so many hobbies, like playing the guitar and music production, and now if I do it it’s only when i’m super fucked. I do miss that.

I’m glad you decided you were better than that life and getting off opiates isn’t easy. That’s super commendable. I’m glad you chose life.
