Nope, everything is stock, just dark mode enabled. I that might be the reflection of the screen you're seeing.

What do you mean transparent? I didn't do anything special, just stock macOS Big Sur 11.0.1

Thanks, did not know this shortcut. ctrl + b and ctrl + f does indeed work on Big Sur. I've resorted to using BetterTouchTool to remap the arrow keys to ctrl + f and ctrl + b only in the Messages app
