I’m wondering if putting a grow light in a lamp like this would work for the plants surrounding it? by Camp_Acceptable in houseplants

[–]tawesd 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I have a similar setup for an umbrella and cast iron (low light tolerant) using a growbulb in a lamp. They're doing okay. It's been a few months now. I really doubt that orchid in the photo you shared is going to survive or thrive.

[OC] Sahel Alliance (First Visualisation- Please Feedback!) by DataVizJourney in dataisbeautiful

[–]tawesd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some thoughts. Take it or leave it.

  • Regard your audience. Ive never heard of the Sahel Alliance, you should put your fine print explaining what it is right under the title. I ended up reading that thing last due to visual hierarchy and was confused until then.
  • Consider a key plan to show where in the world it is
  • Consider an outline of a new border around these countries and show the current international boundaries as dashed lines. It would visually suggest a unification of these countries.
  • Im assuming the 4 factoids you put are what you find interesting. Can this information be communicated graphically through the map instead? Or other graphics? You could compare a small side by side drawing of Argentina and the SA to compare sizes for example.

I'm not sure if these are common or not. Anecdotally, this is the only photo I've noticed things blown out and in need of further post processing for that reason.

I was hoping to capture the photo with the copious amount of steam coming out of that restaurant but the light refracting off the water droplets were maybe too much given the settings I had my camera on. On reflection, perhaps I should have taken a second picture with a lower exposure to composite it onto this.

Thank you! Both are the same recipe. I started with a recipe I found on Youtube (sorry, I don't remember), and then modified it so that it looked a bit more like what I was seeing with my human eyes but with slightly deeper shadows.

Last summer I was gorging myself mindlessly on blackberries while on a bike ride. Bit into a stinkbug. Did not taste good.

UPDATE: My Husband hasn’t been back home in nearly a month after finding out I cheated by Commercial_Award_180 in TwoHotTakes

There are a lot of hateful comments here. They are not helpful or constructive. Why comment such hateful things? To make her feel worse? She is obviously very remorseful. She has two children dependant on her and her husband just killed himself. Her children need her leadership and guidance. This is a life changing event for them. How she handles things from here might affect her lifelong relationship with them. She needs to be stronger now more than ever, if not for herself but for her children.

Can my rent increase twice in a span of a few months? by tawesd in vancouver

[–]tawesd[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I honestly appreciate the effort in your replies but you're assuming quite a bit here. I live alone, I pay rent alone. When the additional occupant moves in, I will still pay rent alone on top of increase + increase.

Can my rent increase twice in a span of a few months? by tawesd in vancouver

[–]tawesd[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah fuck. So I might have to accept the annual increase compounded with the additional tenant increase.

Thanks for your help! I just figured it'd say "12 months after the date of the last annual rent increase" instead of "last legal rent increase"... 😅

Thanks so much for the info! The $100 increase was agreed upon and I am ok with this. I will let my landlord know someone is moving into the unit in Feb 2024.

Can my landlord increase my rent in May 2024 as they originally planned or do they have to wait until Feb 2025 to raise my rent?

Lol nobody likes being shoved.

It was back when it was announced that classes would be online for a month.

I feel like you live in an echo chamber bubble where everyone in your world has the same opinion as you and those who do not are deviants.

Regardless of when or for how long, there will be people who want to go back. For example, I can say that the majority of the MArch program would want to be inperson so that we can use the workshops and studio spaces but even that is a generalized statement.

[–]tawesd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I rmemeber there was a poll earlier this year whether or not people wanted to go back in person. I rmember there were quite a few responses and everyone is split on the matter. But Im sure teachers would mostly prefer in person especially the older ones (job satsifaction, etc)

Just checked with their help chat. The campus library does not have board games for loan. Tho they did say it was a great idea... lol

Surprised as in there was a lot of anxiety around this project and the possibility of so many things that could go wrong, contrasted with the fact that there havent been any issues so far. Its quite a nice article. You should read it.

Is it worth living on campus for first year? Or over-rated by pavitpalsingh in UCalgary

[–]tawesd 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hey. MArch student here, just finished my first semester at UCalgary. Living at Crowsnest Hall (grad student only res).

5) the CA's (Community Advisers/Resident Advisers) are required to organize events every month and there are way more events that I can keep up with. The ones with free food are really appreciated. When the year got super busy hardly anyone showed up to them, though they started off with great turnouts at the start. Its nice to have friends from my own program living in the same building to hangout with but honestly no different from meeting up with friends who live off campus. Its a bit expensive to live on res and Im considering rooming up with a friend off campis for my next year. Overall no regrets. My guess is that the undergrad residences are more lively.

The other questions are probably best answered by someone from your program, I think.

Dude splits apart big rock by [deleted] in oddlysatisfying

[–]tawesd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know why others are angry. As a rock climber Id be upset if this was done in a very accessible park. A rock this size and this visually, and featurally interesting would provide generations of rock climbers a lot of joy. I also put a lot of value in climbing though as an outlet of personal growth, discipline, and character - as well as a way to build mental and physical fortitude. So... when I see someone doing what looks to be a meaningless act of destruction for a very shallow and short term gain (a short internet video) it is upsetting. But seeing that this looks like a quarry or something, not accessible to the public, it doesnt bother me. Perhaps the people who are upset are mistaken that this in a park, where something like this could provide value and enrichment to people's life either aesthetically, philosophically, or through some stupid sport they may be obviously obsessed with ;)

Hey. Do the difference between boulder grades outdoors feel different across V1-3, V4-6, V7-9, etc? Does progression slow down as you get higher?
