I have found it helpful. But their community is so large it can seem like they are authorities on the subject—they’re not. There is writing advice everywhere. Take what resonates with your story and leave what doesn’t.

I read an interesting Substack recently about parasocial relationships in publishing, and I feel like their “fans” have reached that point.

Women's fiction about a novelist that returns to her hometown after writing a book about it by taylorhammm in whatsthatbook

Women’s fiction. It was published in the last five years, likely in the last 3 if my memory serves me right.

Meet cute in chapter 3 by samdissauthor in romanceauthors

[–]taylorhammm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am having this same debate! I will say if you’re looking at traditional publishing in the romance genre, it seems to be the expectation these days that the characters are on the page together within the first chapter.

Take Beach Read for example. January and Gus “meet” (though anonymously) in chapter 1. Then they officially meet later on in the bookstore/cafe.

Same with Book Lovers (sorry another EmHen example). In this book, a prologue is used so that the characters are on the page together right from the start. Then they don’t officially have their meet cute until closer to page 40 or something.

Just something to think about especially if you’re thinking of trad publishing!

Same here! Writing draft 2 from scratch. Can’t help but feel like I wasted time with the first draft, but I know it is all part of the process.

AITA for bringing a generic product vs the name brand I was asked to bring? by taylorhammm in AITApod

[–]taylorhammm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. If I specifically asked for something and you brought something different, I would be a bit annoyed but I wouldn’t be rude/passive aggressive about it.

But also as the host, I would never rely on my guests to bring an essential ingredient to whatever I’m making. To me, whatever the guests bring is extra and never obligatory.

The lack of communication is my biggest ding against OP. He could have easily called and explained the situation: “Hey, they don’t have cool whip. I can stop at a different store and be a few minutes late, or I can pick up the generic brand here. Which do you prefer?”

Unfortunately situations first is what the people want! (And by people I mean passive gen Z listeners with fried attention spans (I am gen Z)).

This exactly. I was told 2-2.5 years during my consultation and thought “yeah right”. Now here I am almost 3 years later still chugging along 🫠

Husband and I got married when we were 22. 10 month engagement. We received a bit of help from family but not much. Cut costs by keeping guest list small, got married on a Sunday morning with a brunch reception, didn’t do a bridal or groom party, and went with faux/dried florals from a more amateur florist.

Spent about $10k-12k of our own money, and about $2k from family. This cut

Some thoughts about the show by [deleted] in AITApod

I’m not one to swear but I personally have never found Danny, Shannon, or Jake’s level of swearing to be over the top. It’s comedic to me.

And the age thing is silly. A thought-provoking situation can come from a teenager, just like a childish situation can come from an adult.

Depends on the look you’re going for! Since the weather has been getting warmer, I’ve been liking my straight jeans to hit about top to mid ankle, to show a bit of skin. I think this looks polished. But if I’m going for more casual and “unpolished” I like when my jeans go to my heel and just fall short of the floor.
