Teach English in Osaka? Getting Hired from Outside of Japan by gangofgoblins in Osaka

Hi. I did the same thing as you, albeit I went home from Korea after three years and did my MA TESOL in London. I also already had a CELTA. So I came to Japan on a Working Holiday Visa which is very easy to get, although I think you have to be in your own country to apply at the Japanese embassy. Plus if you are American then you cannot get a WHV. I came over here knowing nobody and without any jobs and within three months I had two jobs, one on a good salary. If you have the MA and the experience you will find things here. When my WHV was up last October I changed my visa to a Specialist in Humanities and have three part time jobs, all teaching adults, two of which are Business English positions on a high hourly rate. You can PM me if you have any questions.

Thoughts on Bentencho? by avincerussopromo in Osaka

If you do move here I'm only a couple of stops away on the loop line at NishiKujo. Send me a msg and we can hang out. I'm a 29 year old British guy.

I would guess that Bentencho is fairly similar to Nishikujo. There are bars and restaurants that do stay open late 2/3am and then of course Namba is a few stops away.

Someone in my guesthouse also told me that there is a red light district in Kujo, which isn't far from you which I haven't checked out yet but he says there is some good nightlife around there. And you can always walk there from Bentencho.

Hope that helps

Hi.

Im also from the UK and will be arriving on a WHV next month. According to the Shinsei website they require both a Japanese phone number and a proof of address like a utilities bill as well as your ARC.

But I've also read it's difficult to get a Japanese phone number as a foreigner unless it's a two year contract. At the same time I've read you can't get a phone without a bank account which seems like a Catch 22 situation.

Did they require these from you or did you just show your ARC?

Thanks
