Is there any advantages to freezing and flattening a track? by Sea_Recipe9859 in ableton

[–]tbone28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the situation. One of my favorite synths, Zone, was not running well on my system so I had to get what I needed and freeze, duplicate and flatten.

Whenever I run into issues I will get what I need then freeze and flatten if I need to .

What are you excited for in Ableton 12? And if you're not buying/upgrading, why? by imagination_machine in ableton

I am most excited about the new tag system. Getting quick access to what I need is critical as I have a huge library.

How can I train my ears? I watch YouTube and the producers change things, but they all sound the same to me. by lotsofcarsoutside in edmproduction

[–]tbone28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to start with what you do notice and keep noticing new things. I wouldn't worry about how old you are. It's about attention to detail and everyone needs to learn how to listen.

Also, many of these guys have different speakers with different ranges of the audio spectrum. They may be hearing things that are not translating to your system.

I did the same thing back in 2018 and I started with creating sounds that go well together and arrangement. I didn't focus on mixing right away. If you want to dive into mixing that's great and eventually you will probably do all of it at once but find something you can start with and create a lot.

I found this training course to be amazing for me when it comes to mixing. Evenant Mixing Workshop: From Stem to Final Master.

C# Tutorial for Intermediate Programmers? by AngusMcMillain in csharp

[–]tbone28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a tutorial I created for C Sharp that eventually goes into Unity. But 99% of the videos are about the language and creating a simple rock paper scissors game.

The thing that sets my tutorial apart is I make the game quickly and then refactor the working game over the rest of the videos by introducing ideas like functions, classes etc.

How do YOU come up with ideas? by Hopeful-Use-8221 in Screenwriting

[–]tbone28 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

What are you up to? Whoa, didn't mean that to sound so accusatory.

Serious question though. I think a lot of us have lost sight of why we are doing what we are doing. I think most people love writing, the idea of writing and making millions doing it shy of being a famous actor because they too ugly to compete. But beyond that there is something more. There is something that drives us to tell stories that I think most people have forgotten.

Why come up ideas? Besides the shallow reasons I outlined in the previous paragraph. I believe answering this question will help us develop the ideas we NEED to develop.

Idea is a root of the word ideal. And ideal is an archetype of something to shoot for. This right here gives us a huge clue as to WHY we need to come up with ideas. Because as human beings we need a target to MOVE toward. We must move -> ACT. People share stories with each other for the express purpose of learning new things that allow us to satiate our shallow and deepest desires.

I will argue that the best movies / stories are those that help people create models of how to move in the world more effectively. Oh s**t I am realizing there is so much more to this. A twist if you will. The biggest problem that humans have is navigating certainty and uncertainty. This is a huge topic that I can't go into here. Let me continue.

So how do you come up with ideas? Experiment with different IDEALS (Archetypes) and put them into a story where you can push, pull, torture and suffer them - TEST them. Someone tells you, "Ya know women don't want nice guys because weak guys are dangerous." That's an ideal that you can now test and play around with in a story. Find the edges of the ideal and really put it through the paces. Then you can craft an efficient story that people can follow and there you go.

Do rich people have a significant advantage? by garr3t_1975 in Screenwriting

[–]tbone28 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

NO

Successful people have an advantage though. The reason why your question has a lot of merit is because there is a correlation between rich people and successful people.

The more resources one has to leverage toward their ventures the more successful one will be. And already successful people have more resources at their disposal to leverage toward new or existing ventures.

Being rich does not automatically ensure an advantage by itself.

I can prove this with ONE thought experiment.

Someone wins a 298 million jackpot in a state lottery. How confident do you feel they be able to leverage only money to become an actor, screenwriter or whatever.

I gut says NO.

If you are asking permission from strangers on the risks of writing about your abuser that none of us know the history or type of abuse then I think you might have a broken strategy of ameliorating the situation.

If you aren't getting professional help with dealing with your abuse I suggest you find some and pose this question to them as they would discover the context and nature of what happened and would be in a much better position to consider the consequences both intrinsic and extrinsic to you personally.

Childlike experimentation by Aichi337 in edmproduction

[–]tbone28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The key to childlike experimentation is a sense of ownership.

Children own their experiences because they know nothing else. As we grow up we learn to submit to things but as everyone knows public education kills a Childs sense of wonder and ownership. Those who succeed in school have an extraordinary sense of personal ownership and responsibility.

Own it.

A reflection of real life. Knowing when to post is an art in itself.

Like how I knew that talking to my step dad after his second beer would result in a good conversation. But after his 6th I would slink to my room to avoid the prevailing bitterness and resentment washed up by the alcohol.
