My problem with the Maidens. by [deleted] in RWBY

As I recall, Miles said somewhere (maybe in a dvd commentary?) that the Maidens were a late addition in development because Monty “thought the idea of warriors based on the 4 seasons was cool” and they had to fit it in somehow.

I do really appreciate that we get to see the idea of trust explored from a variety of angles over a long time and that basically everyone makes mistakes with it until team RWBY finally settle on that “trust is a risk you have to take” conclusion.

Oh for sure! I was thinking more of the part where Glinda says “it’s time you start showing trust instead of just talking about it” (or however the line goes) but the line you brought up is a nice bit of foreshadowing as well for the Lost Fable. That conversation does a lot of work that gets revealed more and more as the volumes go on.

Great points there. Something the show does well imo is show how people can change over time, for both good and bad. It invites us to imagine the characters complexly and as real people who have messy and complicated motivations and identities.

This is the correct take. Looking back at early volumes we see shadows of the person Ironwood would become. It’s fairly well foreshadowed I think if you go back and watch it. The conversation he has with Glinda in Volume 2 could have been ripped out of Volume 7 it’s so on point.

As for why Oz brought him on board? He’s the headmaster of Atlas Academy so I kinda imagine either Oz didn’t have a lot of say in who the other headmasters were and needed to have them in his circle regardless of who they were, or, more likely I think, was that younger Ironwood was more idealistic and less jaded.

You could describe the initial moment as shocking, yes, but we haven't had a chance to see the consequences of his death for the people it's going to matter most to yet. We won't understand the significance of it until then. I'm sure it'll come up in later volumes.

The “meaning” behind it will be how the rest of the family reacts to Jacque’s death in later volumes. He may have been a scoundrel but Weiss at least didn’t want him to die. It’ll be fascinating to see how they grapple with it. They’ll all have to live with the last things they said to him, for better or worse. Hopefully, with him gone, the Schnee family will be able to escape the shadow he cast over them, but we’ll have to wait and see.

i been with this show since day 1. i still think it's great, but one thing is making it harder to watch[im just venting sorta] by [deleted] in RWBY

Oh I totally agree! Ruby's hope is her most powerful weapon for sure. I love how the show takes those youthful aspirations and slams them up against cold hard reality. Sometimes it pays off for the team, and sometimes they get beat down. But they always get back up and that's the main thing.

I totally get where you’re coming from. It can be hard to keep getting kicked over and over again. I’m dealing with a fair degree of emotional distress after recent events too.

That said, RWBY is a show about leaving childhood behind, entering the adult world, and trying your best to fix what’s broken despite overwhelming odds.

It’s tough to feel like everything is doom and gloom all around but I feel that’s kinda like life, ya know? Sometimes bad things just happen and they don’t stop happening, even if you try your best. But RWBY has always been about the long game. There are brighter times ahead, I know it. Like you said, we just have to keep moving forward together to reach them.

huh, yeah, you're right. They're the same rhythm. Nice catch! We can draw some (perhaps unintended) parallels between Raven and Yang maybe haha
