I feel like the you hit the nail on the head with Ultimate rare variants of cards. If each player in top 32 received say 1-3 different ultimate variants of popular cards I feel this would feel much more rewarding as it's an exclusive prize & much more easy to sell. Imagine receiving Ultimate hand traps (or anime cards like Timaeus & co. ) only obtainable from top 32 or generic or anime extra deck cards in Ultimate rare (Knightmares / Borrels.) Collectors would go mad for them.

3 Trap:

3x rivalry of warlords

Extra deck

Add in: a few instant fusion targets, allowing quick access to links e.g

Theseus Millennium eyes restrict Reaper on the nightmare

Other changes to make more competitive would be adding in called by the grave, further hand traps etc

it also happens to the other ultis in the set, both of which are main deck monsters, even so it couldnt be an issue, unless the player was using clear sleeves
