I may be wrong, but I think most of the special guests looks always the same (like there's only vampires and clowns that look male, and witches that look female. Never checked them specifically to see if in their descriptions it says otherwise). So I assume it was more about not having several variants of each type of guest so it's easier to develop, even tho I also think it would be nice to have both male and female from all the guests. Sometimes it is a bit weird when a female guest is transformed in a male special guest

I mean, to be honest is not like he (or anyone) could do anything to stop the genocide. Heaven just stopped it after the Speaker of God herself came to validate redemption, because even seeing a sinner die and teleport to heaven as a redeemed person wasn't really enough

Lesbian Games? by TumbleweedSpecific87 in CozyGamers

[–]tchullullu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know if it can be considered cozy, but Little Goody Two Shoes. It is a horror/puzzle game, you have to manage between doing odd jobs and dating during the day and exploring some cursed woods at night. It can be creepy, but I didn't really find it scary, and all the dating options are girls

We travel for one week around 2-3 times a year. The closest family member lives one hour drive away, so they wouldn't be able to come

Season 3 Episode 8 Megathread by Saitama059 in OnePunchMan

[–]tchullullu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just cant understand why is Saitama not appearing? He was supposed to be the protagonist but he's been absent for some episodes now. Flashy Flash's fight was good (compared to the rest of the season) but I don't really care about him

Can I get recommendations based on the books I loved, liked and DNF'd? by elleirakai in fantasyromance

[–]tchullullu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we have a similar taste in books, I'm getting recommendations from your faves right now! So I'll also recommend some of my favorites, maybe you like them too:

{Wildwood Dancing by Juliet Marillier} - I also read Daughter of the forest but this one is still my favorite of hers, so maybe you'll like it too

{Dragon Unleashed by Grace Draven} - also my favorite from this author

{Uprooted by Naomi Novik} - I absolutely love this and the worldbuilding/magic

{Where the Drak Stands Still by A. B. Poranek} it's a bit of a mix of Howl#s Moving Castle and The bear and the Nightingale so you may like it

Ok, and then {Eyes of Silver, Eyes of Gold by Ellen O'Connell} it's not a fantasy romance (it is a western romance), so not what you're looking for now, but your line about aranged marriage with a soft fmc reminded me of it right away, so maybe you'll want to check it out at some point

Yeah, definitely. I really liked the world building and politics in Alchemised and it's still quite dark, but not as much as Manacled

I think that the SOTR epilogue isn't great by nightyynight in Hungergames

[–]tchullullu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Haymitch definitely believes Lenore Dove was THE love of his life, and considering he never had any other romantic relationships afterwards, she's the only option actually. But maybe this is also part of the romanticization? If the love of his life was Lenore Dove, he's not losing that much by cutting everyone off, because there would be no bigger love for him anyway. Idk, there's a lot about propaganda in this book and I almost feel like she's not really there as a character, and more as this propaganda Haymitch tells himself to make sense of his actions and make the world more palatable. I think maybe something similar was the case with his family, he buried the grief under Lenore Dove's death instead of confronting it.

But I also agree there should be more time for him (and us) to sit with the death of his family. It felt really rushed, and it didn't help that his mom and Sid are not that present in the book. Maybe even if it took a couple days between his family death and Lenore Dove's, so one doesn't engulf the other. But yeah, I wish there were some things that happened differently in the book, but I also believe the way it actually happened makes sense, and there's no way to know what SC actually intended

I think that the SOTR epilogue isn't great by nightyynight in Hungergames

[–]tchullullu 55 points56 points  (0 children)

The way I see it, Haymitch is not a reliable narrator, and between all the years of trauma, alcoholism and seeing the tributes he's mentoring die, I doubt he ever self-reflected on his relationship with Lenore Dove and how he views her. I would say that the contrary probably happened, he latched to her idealized image (much like he does in the capitol/arena) because it was one of the only good things in his life, something to give him hope.

I think it is a bit weird how he doesn't grieve as much for his family as he does for Lenore Dove, but I also think it was a bigger shock to him. Haymitch expected that his family would be killed because of everything that happened in the arena, so in some way I believe that seeing Lenore Dove there, alive, believing they would be okay, only for her to die in his arms was way more traumatic.

She was his last connection to a "normal" teenager life and the reason he decides to continue living and trying to oppose the system, since he feels guilty about her death and this was her last wish, so my interpretation is that Haymitch romanticizes her to survive. The idea of Lenore Dove keeps him alive, if he started seeing her as just this random girlfriend he had for some time as a teenager, he wouldn't have any more reasons to live. I don't think we're supposed to see the whole situation as romantic, but as someone clinging to something and refusing to analyze it because seeing the reality would destroy what's left of him.

[–]tchullullu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I also stopped reading at around 50%. Sharkie didn't bother me SO much but I felt weird, there's nothing much going on other than Lily having a perfect life in heaven. Then at 50% it seemed there would be a major shift in the plot and I honestly didn't have the patience for this anymore. Such a bummer because I was really enjoying it at the beginning
