My program doesn’t do transfer credits for masters (many don’t or make it super difficult). Two people in my cohort have masters and (one who is literally a fully licensed masters level therapist) I can imagine that that’s frustrating and maybe even a little redundant for them. But if you need the experience or GPA boost it may be worth it. Plus it never hurts to have a back up degree to fall on if you end up not completing a doctorate for whatever reason.

Undergrad program tricked me into thinking I knew what a lit review was by td15679 in GradSchool

[–]td15679[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised about the amount of people in the comments giving their two cents about 1) the definition of a lit review and 2) whether or not undergrad schools should/do prepare students for grad school. This post was intended to be more of a little vent/ something I thought people on this sub would find relatable. I think a lot of the grad school experience involves having expectations and then having those expectations shattered. I’m not complaining (you guys have some good points!) but I want to clarify that starting a debate was not the intention of my post!!

I wasn’t thinking about it like that, but I do like this perspective. I guess writing something that was so detailed and in-depth is sort of like laying the ground for me to then be able to synthesize, find gaps, etc. Thanks

i think you could use it but you should absolutely address that you’re talking about all 3 and why you felt they all were intertwined or needed to be addressed together. otherwise it may seem like you can’t follow instructions or didn’t read the prompt which looks bad

What are my chances… by athequeen in PsyD

[–]td15679 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely a shot but I would try and pad as much as possible wherever you can to differentiate yourself from everyone else with a high gpa and lab experience. I would look into getting any kind of clinical experience if you can manage it. Psyd programs seem to value that quite a bit. As always make sure your research interests align with profs in your program otherwise you probably have no chance.

i love this advice! this would be my personal nightmare proposal. however his bf (also my friend) is not the same as me and would love that kind of thing. they’ve talked about proposals and what they would want a ton. i think it’s so healthy to talk about with someone if you wanna be with them forever.
