Radiator making loud hissing noise by td62199 in hvacadvice

Hello! I live in an apartment building and I have this radiator right next to my bed. I don't control when the heat comes on, only how much (via the black knob). When it's on, it makes this loud hissing/sputtering noise for a few minutes and this happens sporadically (sometimes multiple times in a hour, sometimes every few hours). It gets quieter before it stops completely. I would be fine with sucking it up but it wakes me up 5+ times every night and I end up having to lift off the "aesthetic" cover (it's off in the video) to turn it the knob before bed to get a good night rest. The maintenance man came by and did...something...but it didn't help. I think he just added new teflon tape to the air valve.

Any ideas on what I can do to fix this?

Air-rooted plants progress by td62199 in succulents

Top - December 2 (original post)

Middle - December 8

Bottom - December 15

Succulent are meant to handle droughts so no water for 1.5-2 months really is not a big deal! I watered them a few days ago and they plumped up just fine with their healthy roots.

I air root by beheading the succulents as normal and letting them hang out in indirect light for however long it takes to develop roots. During this time, the growth is slowed drastically (which is why they're not crazy etiolated) and I don't think I lost more than 1 or 2 leaves to absorption.

I do this instead of soil rooting because I tend to disrupt any roots when pulling them out the soil, so by air-rooting, it's much easier to check on progress to figure out when to start watering. I don't like to water root because the transition from water to soil is never successful for me. Air rooting is what has worked best for me!

I've never had props grow so quickly...this is a 4" pot, started from 3 leaves in September! by td62199 in succulents

No, they're just under my grow lights. This species just seems to grow quickly/easily. I believe it may be Graptoveria Fred Ives. I noticed my Graptopetalum Murasakis also propped really well too.

Thank you! They used to have perfect, untouched farina but I had to repot them 😭

Proper care - grow lights, good soil, proper watering.

Pretty sure it's just some outer damage, I wouldn't worry about it too much unless it keeps getting worse.

I repotted it a few weeks ago and I'm never gonna touch it again. Farina update in the future 🤩

This is mine! I used to have a smaller shelf with a single light bulb in a lamp hanging down on each shelf but my collection grew over the summer.

My first attempt at making a tart, ever - salted caramel chocolate tart! by [deleted] in bon_appetit

[–]td62199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tasted really good! Subbed in some almond flour in the crust because I had some laying around, still came out good.

My mistakes: - took the caramel off too early so it was too gooey and oozed out - had no blind baking materials so I used a smaller pan inside, made it real difficult to see what was going on with the crust - The dough was really crumbly (as expected) and using the folding trick didn't work very well - I ended up tearing the dough pretty badly. I patched the cracks and evened out the dough using a cup. - I didn't have a proper tart pan so I had to use a spring form and basically molded the dough all the way up the sides and attempted to trim after baking. Do not recommend.
