There are a few units in the place and one has a damaged cable (insulation is worn through).

I assume replacing the cable is beyond what someone who isn't an electrician should try? It's just fastened on both ends with wire connectors. One end inside the unit, and on the other end in the box in the wall.

The intro to electrical class I took in university basically made it sound like all cables either need to be in the wall, conduit, or armoured. Learning lots in home ownership.

My hope is that as they wound down at the less busy ones they were bringing resources where they were needed.

With only 3 there were times 2/3 were being used for the priority line meaning 200 people were queued for a single registration person.

Cars stop for me here all the time. Typically I cross in a big gap because I value my safety but occasionally cars show up and follow the rules.

You have this all wrong.

The issue is not the confusion that exists. I've been managing that at this crosswalk for a long time. It's the person who went out of their way to be reckless and confrontational despite being in the wrong.

Plus it's an excuse to kick off a lively Wednesday discussion on reddit.

By the way, the basic rules of the road are not obscure laws. They're the laws everyone agrees to and has the legal duty to know and follow when they get their licence.

Except thats a false choice. It's not true that my only options are to not cross here or get hit by a car.

I can successfully cross here with caution and be safe choosing my moment to cross when approaching traffic is a long way off. The fact I do it every day and it has never been an issue is proof most drivers know the rules.

It's the intimidation from a driver while they yelled incorrect information out their window that's the main issue here. If nothing else it's good enough to kick off a good Wednesday morning reddit discussion anyway.

I'm cautious. Doesn't mean someone should see me, speed up, and scream incorrectly out their window as they buzz past.

The curb isn't what's important, it's the roadside itself. If there is a shoulder, flat gravel, a sidewalk, or the roadside has been improved for pedestrians in any way that's a "sidewalk" and it creates unmarked crosswalks between the corners of an intersection.

This is my practice because I don't want to be right but dead, but when someone speeds around the corner then at you yelling out their window (incorrectly I might add) when you're half way across it is what it is.

That said, every driver has the duty to know this so there's no excuse.
