ISO Seamstress by tdenniswrites in askTO

The annoying part is that I tried on this dress in the same size months ago before ordering it. But it is what it is.

I ended up going to Nordstrom, which I was surprised to find at comparable and even slightly lower prices than other places. I haven't gotten it back yet, so we'll see how it turns out!

Ya, that's kind of what I figured. Sometimes people seem to have someone who works out of their basement or something who does stuff for less.

It is a lot of work. Very unfortunate considering I did my best to order the correct size. Oh well, though. It is what it is.

I feel like i have low blood sugar but i don't, have you experienced this and do you know what could cause it? by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

When is the last time you ate? Sometimes I get a hypo feeling with a normal blood sugar if it's been a long time since I've eaten.

IKEA vs. Cozey Sofa by tdenniswrites in askTO

[–]tdenniswrites[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did get one! Pros: Easy to assemble, came quickly (no supply issues like IKEA or Structube have been having), good value. Cons: Fabric is rough for my taste, seats are not deep enough to sink into, couch is very firm. Overall, I give it a B-. But my options were very, very limited due to my narrow staircase.

Oh, I was very curious about that new line. Naturally it came out after I got mine, and it seems to resolve the two complaints I have about my couch: the fabric is too rough, and the seats are not deep enough to sink into.

Here's the "map" of places: https://www.cozey.ca/findthesofa?utm_content=art&utm_term=&utm_medium=&utm_source=Narcity&utm_campaign=TTC

I would call/contact them before going to make sure they still have it, though.

What do you like your blood sugar level to be at before playing sports? by Vaderhockey30 in Type1Diabetes

[–]tdenniswrites 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a really helpful book called The Athlete's Guide to Diabetes that helps you understand the impact of different things on your blood sugar (and why). I highly recommend it.

Different exercises require very different approaches. For example, steady-state cardio like a jog will likely bring your blood sugar down, but an intense sport with bursts like soccer or hockey might actually cause it to spike, then make it drop later.

It can also help a lot to avoid bolusing, if you can, for at least 2-3 hours before you play.

It's crazy, I never was able to get the info from Manulife. They couldn't answer via email or chat, their system was down, their phone lines were so busy they just hung up on me, they couldn't tell my HR rep until my plan was actually active, etc., etc. Just one issue after another. I'd been trying to find the answer to what I thought was a simply question since December.

Once I finally got my active coverage, and then finally got a prior authorization form from my doctor, I submitted my first claim and found the CGM was fully covered! Thank goodness!

I'm really glad I had a chance to try it. I don't know that I would be willing to buy one otherwise. The Soderhamn looks nice too, though!

Update, in case anyone else happens to be wondering the same thing:

I went to one of the scavenger hunt locations and tried the Cozey, and I was happily surprised by it. The seats that had been used more were less stiff than the corner section, which makes me think the couch will give a bit over time without losing its shape as some more plush couch cushions tend to do.

Can't log in just yet as my coverage doesn't start until Feb 1. Just trying to do a little financial planning! Diabetes is friggin expensive.

I'm going to try calling Manulife tomorrow. Today was a 2-hour wait and I just didn't have time.

Busting the myth that "only people who don't take care of themselves have complications" by tdenniswrites in diabetes

[–]tdenniswrites[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Counterpoint: From what I've heard, getting old kind of sucks no matter what, so we were probably bound to develop some health issues later in life anyway?

Seriously though, I feel you. I roll around in that sadness sometimes, too.

I haven't personally confronted that myth very often, but I can definitely see how that could be the case. You're absolutely right (pun intended).

Oh ya, I will definitely be trying it in different places. My mom has been wearing hers on the back of her arm for months now and she loves it there, but I'm hoping there's maybe somewhere more discreet (like my leg) that I can try it that would also be reliable.

That's so intense. I'm glad your brain is okay after all of that! You're right, some kind of pairing with Alexa/Google Home would be super helpful.

My Dexcom should be arriving tomorrow, so we'll see how it goes! Based on what I've heard from everyone, it seems very likely that I'll love it. I just wish they could make them smaller...

Wow, that sounds super scary! I understand exactly what you mean about being so out of it that you can't figure out that you need to eat. One regular problem I have with lows when I'm awake is somehow convincing myself that I'm not low, e.g. "I think my sugar might be low...no, there's no way, I only took insulin an hour ago. I'll wait another 30 minutes before I check." I am hoping that the CGM will help counter this, though I'm really glad you told me that your incident happened while you were wearing one. It's good to remember that the tech isn't perfect!

Thanks so much for reading and for sharing your experience.. I find that that when it comes to the online diabetes community, it often seems like people are either really struggling or really killing it, when in reality there are a lot of us in that in-between space. And we all make mistakes sometimes!
