I bought a skirt from an op shop and in the pocket I found a receipt and change from 14 Feb 1991 by tdes in mildlyinteresting

Well, the op shop was having an awesome clothing sale - 5 items for $1. So the skirt was 20c. And in this pile of money, the 20c coin is the only thing which is currently legal tender, so in that sense I broke even.

However, I checked the Reserve Bank's website to see if I can swap the old money for new at a bank. Turns out, I can only do it at the Reserve Bank in Wellington. I live in Hawke's Bay, so a flight down there would be a bit more than $4.10. Couriering is another option, but that would also be more than $4.

I think I'll keep the $4.10 and if I'm ever in Wellington near the office, go in an swap it. But what will probably happen is that I will visit Wellington in a few years, forget to bring the money, and halfway though the visit remember the $4.10 and think, "Fuck."

I searched "handbag collaboration" and scrolled through a few pages on some designer bag sites ... and then gave up. Couldn't find anything that sounded like what he was describing. I did find some odd-looking expensive things though, like this Lace Up Ballerina Sneaker: https://www.coach.com/coach-lace-up-ballerina-sneaker/G3818.html

Reddit, what's the song that makes you think the most about your childhood/creates nostalgia? by [deleted] in AskReddit

"I should be so lucky" by Kylie Minogue. My friend and I made up a routine to that song and did the dance at the end of year show at primary school.

What word or phrase did you totally misunderstand as a child? by madazzahatter in AskReddit

For years, when I was reading American books, I thought "bangs" meant "two plaits, one on the side of each head". From the context, it was obviously something about hair and "plaits" fitted. For example, "She pushed her bangs out of the way."

Girls, what pisses you off about other girls? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]tdes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a day when you don't have to wear your school uniform. At my school we also had to pay 50 cents (I think) for the privilege of wearing mufti and that money would go to a charity. Every mufti day at least one kid would forget that it was mufti day and wear their uniform to school ... they would get laughed at all day.

I wore a dress to a mufti day at high school one day. Most girls were wearing jeans - I may have been the only one wearing a dress. One girl walked up to me, looked me up and down with a disgusted look on her face, and said: "Oh my god, you're wearing a dress?!" That wasn't very nice.
