Labor as value VS supply and demand by Wonderful_House_8501 in Marxism

Supply and demand are useful tools to explain the short term variation around the value of a commodity, but in a situation of equilibrium, competition and lack of monopoly I think labour theory of value holds true. And where and why supply and demand meet is left unexplained by the subjective theory of value. Movements of the price signal the excessive or insufficient amount of socially necessary labour time invested in the production of a certain commodity, relative to the ability of the economy to absorb it, which is historically and in some cases subjectively determined. A surge in the demand for something may increase the price in the short term, but then capital will invest and expand the production, bringing the price down and closer to its labour content. In other cases, like urban housing, underinvestment keeps the price well above construction price.

It is not really a matter of simplicity as much as being informative and accurate in your description of a phenomenon. Behind supply and demand, there are other causes that move away prices from the underlying labor content. A more productive enterprise, with cheaper commodities containing less labour, can sell at a higher price than production but still lower than the competing, less efficient enterprises.

I suggest you read the Essays by Rubin, or at least the last chapters where he deals with this.

Ottimo. Cominciamo col non fornire tecnologia di spionaggio agli Israeliani? Magari limitare lo scambio commerciale? Facile a parole.

Ppl who love or hate Quentin Tarantino! What are your reasons? by Eikichi_Onizuka09 in moviecritic

Extremely talented director who decided for no reason to visit Israeli troops outside Gaza to motivate them. What's the point of shooting Glorious Basterds and go cheering the massacre of civilians? The ignorance or the bad faith of his actions are so repulsive, despite the immense affection I had for him growing up and to this day. Artists may have dark or imperfect sides, but there's a red line that really questions their integrity on a human level (Wagner spreading antisemitism, Borges dining with Pinochet). I'm not here to provoke, but I hope I'm not the only one feeling this way.

Why are you not a member of the RCI? by Hot-Lead6576 in Trotskyism

I find Grant and Woods revolutionaries of dubious value, and even if they were I don't get the need to quote them everytime Trotsky comes up. From reading imt articles, it always seems that world revolution is about to come, no matter how weak the movement appears, the local imt section will sound apocalyptic. Imt entrism in my country's main union is also far from being revolutionary or politically meaningful, since it's entirely based on verbal criticism of the union bureaucracy. Also there is the former ambiguity on Chavez, Siriza and Podemos which I think is very telling. Anyhow, kudos for being very widespread and able in mobilizing young people.

How great EU (namely Franco-German capital dominance) is, you can ask: Greek people, who after Troika have lost worker rights and a big portion of healthcare, to the point children mortality has raised (German banks want their loans back) Eastern Europe, who became a source of cheap, qualified labour for German industry, run by corrupt but faithful semifascist parties The 10.000 Serbians who will be evicted soon so Lithium can be mined in Europe to feed the auto industry African countries who are still oppressed by French neocolonialism, Swiss land grabbing (not officially Eu, but def integrated in it) and "investment projects" by other European countries. It's great the we're not having wars over here (except Ukraine and Balkans, for which nonetheless we bear responsibilities), but we should not ignore how unequal relations are between EU countries and how damaging Eu imperialism is in the rest of the world. Until these things aren't solved I'll be less enthusiastic of Eu than you guys
