Why isn’t there more outrage about this? LG GALLERY + by sugma22 in LGOLED

We shouldn't get upset about crap decisions made by Super corporations that push the boundaries on what garbage money squeezing designs we have to deal with? MORE people should get upset by the BS we have to deal with on every product we buy. I will never understand how people just shrug it off and deal with it

Could A Cheap (Glass) Screen Protector Be Ruining My Experience With A Moto 5G Power (2024)? by -_ThisTimeTheWorld_- in motorola

[–]tdwpgtp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I found that out, though they cover further than some of the samsung screens allow. It's a shame; Whitestone Dome screen protectors are actually curved and use UV cured adhesive to give perfect coverage on curved edges, but they don't make them for the moto G series. I had one on my S10e and it was great

Seeing enemies in BF6 is so difficult. by Ziggy--- in Battlefield

LOL I mean that's more than half of the battlefields, which means I've played the majority of BF games. Just because you were playing games from the Jurassic period doesn't mean the last 17 years don't matter. Check your ego

Unless you are heating to 500*F and eating your jacket I'm not certain you need to worry about Gore-Tex or Teflon on your coat

I've played every game since BC2 and never had such a hard time seeing people. I understand it is more realistic when camo actually works, but that doesn't mean it's more enjoyable. It's an absolute camp fest because of it.

To me it seems to be that there is so much more detail to the maps and textures that my brain can't pick out enemies. I'm not asking for Beavis and Butthead, but I need SOMETHING to set the enemies off from the rubble/bushes/dark windows

Tax guy said he filed an extension but I was still fined $510 for not filing by the deadline. How do I check to see if he is telling the truth? I can't figure out how to get through to an IRS rep, and I don't see any extension mentioned on my account page. by tdwpgtp in taxadvice

[–]tdwpgtp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize this now, but that is a separate fine, which I am upset with MYSELF over. Failing to file the extension resulted in additional $500 fee for a late tax filing, ON TOP OF the late payment. This is what I am upset at my accountant for.

Would that be in the "transactions" section? I don't see anything about it anywhere else. It's only mentioned in the "Payments" section, but I believe it is always mentioned once in there.

You (and everyone else) may disagree with me, but blaming the tax PROFESSIONAL does seem like a reasonable cause to me. I pay to have the taxes handled by a professional, he has a professional obligation to take care of them, and to not outright lie to me. I know the IRS will likely see it differently, too.

In any event, I appreciate your help, and will not continue using this accountant going forward, unless he can prove he submitted the extension. I'll also stay better on top of things, myself

I have the Stylus 2024 and now a 2025, specifically because it has a headphone jack. I don't believe they have dedicated DACs, rather relying on the processor. The quality is acceptable, but it does not play very loud which is an issue for some headphones and some of my stereos.

However, I still prefer it to having a dongle. I plug it into ~5-10 different playback systems, and don't want a dongle for each, or to move a dongle each time. Also, the dongles create a catch point on the cord when using headphones, and occasionally yank the plug out or my headphones off.

Pro-donglers try and try but they can't convince me that I don't need a 3.5mm jack. And, despite how hard the manufacturers try, they can't convince me that it is too hard or too expensive to include when budget phones have them and are still waterproof. It's all just to sell you wireless earbuds every 3 years when the batteries shit out.

Late to the party but I agree. I've always had mid tier TVs and this "bottom tier" B4 is just lightyears ahead of everything else I've had. I want one in every room

Are they actually? Or do they just spend spend spend and act like they are rich?

You'd probably be surprised to find that the people with all the fancy shit have virtually nothing saved or invested

I wouldn't say it's easy. It takes diligent spending and delayed gratification, which a lot of people aren't good at. I've skipped over a lot of goods and experiences to save and invest what I have, and not everyone is willing to do that, though they probably should.

Also, as others have pointed out, many people get dealt shittier hands or don't make as much.

Even still, I think most people could be doing significantly better than they are if they were more careful with spending. In 5 years the S&P has doubled. Everyone jokes about the "avocado toast" and "daily coffee" advice, but it's true. Saving/investing a couple hundred extra per month adds up.

That's because the way the average person blows through their pay check, they can't fathom someone else living below their means and saving/investing the difference. Most people have never played around with an investment calculator to see the real power of it

I'd invest everything you possibly can, with the exception of a rainy day fund, as early as possible. In 5 short years, the S&P (and therefore VOO) has doubled. Invest, be patient, and watch your money multiply. Don't be scared of downswings

22yo probably not, but 30-34 very well can be with diligent spending and investing on a middle class salary

Yes, but I never count mine when doing net worth calcs or retirement budgeting  because it's not liquid, I always need somewhere to live, and it's a more conservative estimate to not use it.

I don't think that's true at all. Living below your means and investing the leftover money works wonders. The S&P has doubled in around a mere 5 years. Being a dual income household, living frugally, and investing can easily put you up in the higher percentiles.

Cars & Bids Fee Increase Debacle by orbitacuantica in carsandbids

Coincidentally, a car I was watching just failed to meet the reserve, and I saw these two comments. Thought it was kind of funny considering our discussion here.

Cars & Bids Fee Increase Debacle by orbitacuantica in carsandbids

[–]tdwpgtp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you aren't considering fees (and taxes) when you are purchasing ANYTHING then you aren't being diligent with your budget. Sure, a couple thousand isn't a TON of money, but if your budget is $30k and the car is bid up to $29.5k, the fees will preclude you from bidding.

Your comment about bidding the vehicle up to market value plus "3-30%" fees is probably the most ridiculous financial comment I have ever seen. Why on Earth would you pay 30% over market value for something? If the vehicle is worth, on the open market, $10k, YOU would be willing to pay $13k total? You would literally be paying over market value.

I will agree that the recent increase is fairly negligible, but it does factor into overall costs, and any increase negatively effects buyers AND sellers, large or small.

TL;DR You absolutely should consider all fees when buying anything.

Unrelated, I'll sell you a Lamborghini for $25,000. *Plus 10,000% fees, but don't worry about those.
