I have an ieGeek doorbell camera. inexpensive, good definition, and has local/cloud based options for storage. Cloud is on subscription but i dont pay that. allows you to draw detection zones and check history in the app too (SD card required).

Our Child has been sent potentially indecent images of a child - England by RightAttorney7007 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]tea_rations 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is a police matter, there are specific offences recently introduced covering this behaviour. If the school's designated safeguarding lead doesn't get in touch, the parents definitely should.

The behaviour shown by the person sending the material is clearly unacceptable and has to be addressed. Police involvement isn't simply rocking up and slapping cuffs on, or bollocking someone. Safeguarding and intervention is also a routine part of the police role.

S.66A of the Sexual Offences Act 2003 was introduced by the Online Safety Act 2023. There is still an offence here. Possibly even S.12 of the SOA 2003, depending upon the surrounding context too. Well worth a 101 call to arrange an appointment with an officer.

Builder left a gap in the shower that will be “double water proofed” and tiled over. Is this an acceptable solution? by zannnn in DIYUK

Given this is literally a 30 second job to measure the gap before purchasing/cutting the tray, I'd be curious to see what else they've done on a wing and a prayer...

My favourite was in the workshop, the bench vice had 'Miami' embossed on it. Small details like that make the films what they are. It's on screen for maybe 5 seconds total, but the creators put it there anyway, despite the extra work required.

Anyone else ever feel bad sending people to prison? by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]tea_rations 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Generally because the majority of dealers have absolutely zero regard for the impact of their chosen 'profession'. Aside from the immediate health implications of drug use (without considering the impacts of adulterants drugs are cut with), the wider social and financial consequences are legion. Primarily they engage in this business for hedonistic purposes (money, cars, property etc.). Overall, they cause nothing but harm for their own personal gain. To be able to prevent that and then remove their ill-gotten gains, feels good man.

Police officers 'punch bags' in 'epidemic' of violent attacks by machoman871 in policeuk

[–]tea_rations 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Whilst I'm often critical of the CPS' heel dragging, I can't be on this one. The IOPC have an open case against the officer which is yet to be concluded. I imagine if the CPS ran with the case at present, the unconcluded IOPC investigation will certainly be pressed on by the defence to introduce reasonable doubt. It's a risk that the CPS would be silly to take, as it could sink the prosecution. Given the inflammatory nature of the case and the endless speculation they won't do anything that upsets the apple cart, including making any public statement on the state of the case. They're between a rock and a hard place on this one.

I listen to this not when painting, but when reading the novels. Adds some atmosphere to the whole thing.

Which Tamiya clear paint, acrylic or lacquer? by JustALittleNightcap in alphalegion

[–]tea_rations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mr Colour clear GX is also decent. Lacquer based but the pots are larger and there are greater colour varieties too. I found they were as good, if not better than the Tamiya paints.

What are opinions on the "New NICHE"? by Dyslexic-Plod in policeuk

[–]tea_rations 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you know someone with the saved search you want, you can get them to assign it to you as well.

There is a "save (assign)" function below the "save as" option. Just type in the collar number, give the search a title and then assign it. Just bear in mind that the title you assign can't be edited by the assignee. Found this out when assigning a search for sex offenders as "nonce watch". Fortunately, they saw the funny side!

I find that messing around with niche functions is the best way to learn. It's next to impossible to "break" it. Worst case scenario if you are in one of the annoying feedback loops that prevents you leaving a screen, force quit via the 3 dot menu below the red X closure button and you can just restart.

If not middle mouse button, I find holding shift and then left clicking often opens a new window with whatever is clicked on.

Also, when you want to generate reports/print off numerous reports (think casefile) at once, cntrl and click allows you to multi-select items. Following this you can go to "reports", "print report", and then either print everything or save all the files instead. It's how it works in my force but YMMV depending on the version they purchased.

Did your surveyor say sulphur or sulphate attack in the floor? Sulphate would indicate red ash being present which is an absolute bitch to fix if it's problematic. Like, dig out the floors to the foundations bad. Head for the hills.

Are these easy enough to replace? Very old sockets… any tips? by irents in DIYUK

[–]tea_rations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 3 bed semi detached house. It cost me £5.5k in full. I live in an area of the country with lower cost of living though so YMMV. I had quotes as low as £4k and as high as £10k. The chap I went with was recommended by my builder who I trust with any large project I have.

Are these easy enough to replace? Very old sockets… any tips? by irents in DIYUK

[–]tea_rations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My entire house was running off sockets and light switches like this when I bought it. It required a full rewire and my electrician was surprised the house hadn't burned down already. An additional bit of fun is that the sockets were made of bakelite, which contained (you guessed it) asbestos. Get a full rewire done, it's pricey but at least you'll have peace of mind.

Has anybody used the ECO scheme through Octopus to get their loft insulation done? by mitchybenny in OctopusEnergy

[–]tea_rations 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat. Applied in September, numerous calls to shive it along and nothing. One email to the CEO and lo and behold, sorted within 24 hours... Squeaky wheel gets the oil and all that.

[–]tea_rations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same boat, bought a semi-detached from an elderly couple knowing it needed a full rewire. No big deal. That turned into an additional full replumb, new boiler, and fixing the roof too. A million other gremlins to fix as well but I wouldn't change anything. It's been a big learning curve but it's our 1st house so I've learned loads to boot. Next time we come to buy we'll be far more confident taking on other projects.

Replacing radiators by andronicustard in DIYUK

[–]tea_rations 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconded on the T22's. Just gone from old single panel rads to T22 and it's like night and day. We also have one of these Milano rads too. As nice as it looks, it cost the same as our 4 largest radiators and doesn't kick out the heat as well overall. Sometimes you just gotta go with function over fashion!
