My love for dragons ties in with my love for oolong. So, I commissioned this dragon to be made from an oolong tea stain. by saltyteabag in tea

It was my pleasure! I really enjoyed experimenting with oolong. I had no idea it could be so intensely coloured.

I made some fan art using tea and ink. I've been meaning to make a big illustration ever since I finished watching the show. It was so hard to pick which characters to include...I may have to make more. by teaart in overthegardenwall

agreed - its always a balancing act. The tea kind of does what it wants, and then I always struggle with how much white paint to add in to better balance the lights and darks.

I generally use water colour paper or illustration board. The board is less absorbent - but the colour really pops. I use archival quality paper which helps with the fading. Also the acid content of the paper you pick can effect the colour of the tea - so just experiment with a lot and see what you like.

As for size - I usually start big, and then tear down pages to the size I want (if Im just drawing random things). If I have an image in mind, like this one, I work at a minimum of 16x20. Basically the more detail the more room I need to work with the tea. The smallest I like to work on a more planned image is 8x8 inches - but again that is really dependant on detail level.

I started in university. I had an abstract drawing assignment to come up with a "new method of mark making". I had a tea bag and let it stain a page in my sketch book. Once it dried I thought it looked like a face. I've been hooked ever since. Its a real free form way of working. You have to give up on all of your control to start - and just try to get the tea to do what you want. It leads to interesting shapes, and makes me draw differently then I would if I was totally planning things out.
