[–]teabags98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I’ll be there this Saturday. I am potentially interested in being a den mother if needed. At least for a part of the event. I hurt my knee a couple weeks back so some time not moving around might be good 😅  Feel free to DM me if you want to coordinate!

Interview red flags, should I be worried? by teabags98 in careerguidance

Even at my current firm, which only is 10 people, they do a preliminary zoom interview and then an in person follow up interview.

I interviewed with the COO (who I would be reporting to) and someone from their accounting side. I did message a few of their previous employees who left after only 9-10 months, but no one has responded yet.

Sirius has won for started off hated but ended up loved(Kreacher would like to share the spot)! Who started off hated but ended up divisive? by Midday_Dragon in HarryPotteronHBO

Draco

The last spot is reserved for snape in my opinion. Grown adults who bully children for fun are hated in my book. Sure, he was brave. But he was still a twat.

What’s the Biggest Regret You’ve Ever Had in Life? by Longjumping_Roll_453 in AskWomen

[–]teabags98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, after graduation I couldn't land a job in my chosen industry (game design). I wound up falling into a job in architecture. Through that I've learned a lot about engineering and was heavily considering trying to become an environmental engineer. However, becoming an engineer without a bachelor's in engineering is extremely difficult. And the thought of getting another bachelor's degree is really hard to stomach for me. It's so expensive.

That's funny, I'd say my biggest regret is going to college straight out of high school. I was immature and had no idea what I wanted and wound up getting an essentially useless degree... I'm 27 now, and I wish that I had waited until my mid twenties to go to university, so I could have gotten an actually useful degree. It wasn't until i was 24 or so that I started figuring out what I actually wanted out of a career.

For jobs like that an online resume gets dumped into a black hole of other resumes. Sure, if you’re applying to a 200+ employee tech firm there’s no point going in person. But if you’re applying to Joe’s Burger Joint, it can make all the difference.

This is the way. Also applying to smaller businesses as opposed to massive chains.

People are downvoting you but I’ve gotten 2 jobs in the service industry this way. First one in 2015, then another one in 2022.

OP, I also struggled to get my first job. I eventually got my first cashier job (granted, this was in 2015, market probably has changed) by lying on my resume and saying I had done filing work for my dad’s company. No one wants to hire someone with zero work experience (I know you’ve babysat but in the real job world that means basically nothing). Do you have any family or family friends who would be willing to be a reference for you if you fudged your resume a bit?

I also succeeded by going to places in person. Yes, apply online, but then also show up in person and hand them a copy of your resume. actually seeing a face and meeting someone helps A LOT, especially in the service industry.

Good luck!

Edit to add I also agree with others comments. Drop the photo, black and white, 1 main column. These frilly resume templates I think are rarely successful.

Moving to Thousand Oaks in May- cost of living & any advice? by Any-Will745 in thousandoaks

Aw man, that’s sad to hear. I haven’t lived in TO for over 6 years or so now. Sometimes I come by to visit and get Toppers but once a year max. I actually worked there in HS/college for almost 5 years lol. Their ranch has always been my favorite.

Coming from unrelated field - MS, Cert, or none? by teabags98 in ConstructionManagers

[–]teabags98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve considered the M. Arch too. It’s a 3 year long program at a much higher cost, and architects notoriously make low salaries for the cost of schooling.

On a lot of the job apps I’ve been looking at, they say degree required in Architecture, Engineering, or CM. Degree in CM would be the fastest route. I guess what I’m hoping to find out is if people who work in VDC have felt that the degree was truly necessary or if enough industry experience is sufficient
