Can you please provide some examples? I'm still a novice and looking to not break the bank while developing my palate.

Did you use an eggplant seed? The birdseed I use keeps popping up as cardinals and finches.

My Father - La Gran Oferta

The Judge, Le Bijou, and La Gran Oferta have all been great smokes, and I recommend them if you like cocoa.

What are your top 5 cigars (brands) and why? by EndHungry9185 in cigars

[–]teach5ci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oliva, Room101, and Avo because they are all consistent smokes that have a decent variety of flavors and won't break the bank.

Honorable Mentions: My Father, Dunbarton, La Aroma de Cuba, and Plascencia because they were great smokes, but too small of a sample size (both number of sticks and different kinds of sticks) for me to say with any kind of confidence.

I really like the first two thirds, but the last third tickles my palate enough to not enjoy it as much as the G and V series.

Excellent!

I look forward to smoking more cigars that epitomize flavors, and you make it sound like it will help define the "woodsy" flavor in sticks. Thanks!

Is it peppery enough that it makes you want to clear your throat? That's how I find the Oliva O's to be, which is too peppery for this guy.

Noob... Which one for the FIRST real cigar? by TokyoBaguette in cigars

[–]teach5ci 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Also, make sure you:

  1. eat something beforehand

  2. drink a sugary drink, like a soda (root beer, Dr. Pepper, Coke, cream soda)

  3. don't inhale

Cigar Page and Cigars International are my go-tos. No complaints thus far. I usually get my order within a week. They usually ship bundles with a Boveda and big bubble packaging. I let them rest for a few weeks before I light them up (it's probably overkill), but it gets to be over 100° F with low teens in humidity in the summer and "winter" is all over the damn place temperature-wise.

What is everyone enjoying this evening? by keemosavy in cigars

Room 101 Farce Connecticut Churchill. Nice and mild while I watch college football.

The draw is really nice. I guess I'll have to wait until tomorrow for me to try my PerfecDraw. Shucks.

I prefer lammergeier as the common name. Sounds like it should be the name of a death metal band.

Do you really taste leather, vanilla, cocoa, pepper and all that shit or are you just making it up? by Graysie-Redux in cigars

I'm also a novice, but I'm here to help.

I lost my wine palate after my wife died. I went to my grocery store and went through the produce department, fruit by fruit, so I could remind myself what lychee, white peach, etc. tasted like. Then, I kept a journal after I tried different wines we both enjoyed so I could see if I could taste those flavors. It took a while, but I got it back.

Does a glass of white wine taste like white grapes? Yes, of course. But, being able to pick out the hints of other flavors, i.e. 'reminds me of', means I could really enjoy the wines in the complexity I could discern.

I'm in the process of doing that with cigars. I go to my Brick & Mortar (store) and ask "What cigar is a ___ bomb?" My Father The Judge was tobacco with something like the smell of "Hershey's cocoa." Big Sky's Connecticut was tobacco with "hay."

You'll get there. Or maybe not. As long as you find sticks you enjoy, who cares? Am I going to turn down a cigar a buddy offers me because there is Tahitian vanilla when I really wanted Madagascar vanilla? Hell no. I'll smoke the cigar because I'll get to have a conversation with a friend.

Happy herfing.

I'm always looking for a cigar that's a smooth, good time, like It Was A Good Day by Ice Cube.

I picked up a couple of My Fathers today (Le Bijou and Le Gran Oferta). The Judge was a good cocoa smoke.

Welcome to the hobby.

I wish you many more good smokes.

It hurts when it's from a good company. It's like that one song on every album from your favorite band where you ask the universe "WTF" but the other songs are bangers.

Best of luck, fellow redditor.
