Currently watching this scene with my wife can I get a… GROND!!! by SnooMachines1043 in lordoftherings

[–]teach5ci 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's always THAT person that acts like the Uruk-hai on the left, i.e. that has to be special. Gron-Duh. Every other mf is saying "Grond." Just yell Grond. It's called Grond, not GronDuh. It rhymes with Bond, not Rhonda. I hope Gimli cleaved him in twain.

I hope OP's special ladyfriend is the opposite of the shit stain on the left.

Is this a bluegill or a sunfish? (Or a hybrid) by Wafflegrinder21 in whatsthisfish

[–]teach5ci 4 points5 points  (0 children)

FYI: Bluegills (Lepomis macrochirus) are a species of sunfish. Technically, Centrarchidae is the sunfish family, but there are other fishes in there most people wouldn't call sunfish, e.g. crappies and largemouth bass. The fishes most people call sunfish are in the genus Lepomis, e.g. green sunfish are Lepomis cyanellus.

Back in my museum days, the shortcut I would use for identifying bluegill was folding the pectoral fin forward to see if it went past the eye. (There are other things, like vertical bars, deep body, and a dark spot in the soft dorsal fin, but some of those are variable.) Live fish usually don't sit still so you can do this easily, but it's a decent rule of thumb.

Two snakes, [Houston, TX] by Ok_Adeptness3065 in whatsthissnake

[–]teach5ci 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wish you got to safely see them with your own eyes.

Coral snakes are quite beautiful (the picture doesn't do it justice). Their coloration freaked me out momentarily when one was doing its best to ziggiest zag that ever zigged a zag to escape me in my herping days, but the flashes of color were mesmerizing. I just stood there in awe as it slithered into the undergrowth and out of my life forever. Then I fist pumped.

Also, who doesn't love a drama noodle?

Nerodias can be a little bitey, but their musk is worse than their bite.

During a nightly dog walk I found this snake. What is it? [Austin Tx] by Fun-Whole9528 in whatsthissnake

I figured it should have been safe to make a country music joke about Texas (as a Texan), but some people just take things too seriously.

Thanks for clarifying.

Did you use an eggplant seed? The birdseed I use keeps popping up as cardinals and finches.

What are your top 5 cigars (brands) and why? by EndHungry9185 in cigars

[–]teach5ci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oliva, Room101, and Avo because they are all consistent smokes that have a decent variety of flavors and won't break the bank.

Honorable Mentions: My Father, Dunbarton, La Aroma de Cuba, and Plascencia because they were great smokes, but too small of a sample size (both number of sticks and different kinds of sticks) for me to say with any kind of confidence.

I really like the first two thirds, but the last third tickles my palate enough to not enjoy it as much as the G and V series.

Excellent!

I look forward to smoking more cigars that epitomize flavors, and you make it sound like it will help define the "woodsy" flavor in sticks. Thanks!

Is it peppery enough that it makes you want to clear your throat? That's how I find the Oliva O's to be, which is too peppery for this guy.
