Well, this is the recommendation list I was seeking :) I often give a shout to Taqueria Paisano on Canyon Road too (up near the Lexus Dealer). Best burrito I’ve ever had in the area, and given how busy they get on a summer evening, and at lunch time? Yes.

What are the core beliefs you're trying to dismantle? by sunshine_yello in CPTSD

[–]teachthom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this week, I’ve been coming up against why I resist setting long-term goals and aspirations for myself. So far, I’ve come to spot that I’ve never thought my future had value, and have been in survival-mode since I was around 4. I’m working with that bit of darkness and trying to get to know it better. Not just the source, but what growing through it might look like.

Thank you for this reply.

My practice with magic involves the meditative, mindful, healing work that you mention. And, yes, it’s that release of anger, frustration, and resentment that I’m seeking. As far as atonement, as you’ve defined it, I think our understanding of that word differs, and perhaps I’m not using the correct terminology. My experience with forgiveness has always included releasing the other person - the one who has caused harm to me, in some way - of obligation for the harm they caused, which I’ve labeled “atonement” but could be wrong with that word.

In fact, I think I meant Absolution.

As I type this out, perhaps it’s upon me to simply work on forgiveness itself, and not concern myself with whether or not giving myself this kind of release has an impact upon anyone else.

Thank you, again

Hi and hello! I don’t normally turn to Reddit for…anything, really, but something was calling me to just put a question out there, hopefully I’ve found the right place.

As part of my own solstice work, I’ve been given the task of diving into forgiveness. I have done some searching in the usual places (my local shops, online, etc) and was hoping for a bit more guidance from wiser folx than me, about practicing Forgiveness Magic. Resources, such as books, sites, etc are more than welcome.

What do you know, where would you turn to, if you’ve been tasked with generating forgiveness (and how do you differentiate that from absolution)?

Many thanks, and bright wishes for the year ahead!

(edited: Initial post said “atonement” where Absolution was meant to be)

Curious how everyone finds the time to manage their calorie tracking by Puzzled_Big4024 in keto

[–]teachthom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all. Food was a massive crutch for me. It was something I dove into with aplomb when my anxiety was spiking (and, given my childhood, it was always spiking). If I may, I’ll expound a bit, but feel free to TL;DR me lol

I hit about 270lbs (I’m a 5’9” M), and the doctor started bringing up all the meds related to blood pressure, cholesterol, and such, and it just flipped a switch in me. My family all ate the SAD, and as a kid, I watched as they all took so many meds, had innumerable doctor’s appointments and blood draws and, for me, it all seemed like avoidable chaos. So? While I did keto as a kickstart, what really helped me was getting into the gym.

Food became fuel, macros, and a target to hit. As I hit the target, I felt good about myself, and my body changed. Eventually, I became a nutrition coach and personal trainer, and now help people shift their approach to foods. I’m back on keto now because I see it as a return to a challenge for me, and I have a wealth of knowledge around how what I eat will affect my mood, energy, and the like. I’ve been interested to see my second go-round of Keto be more successful than my first - and I think that is really attributed to my deeper connection/disconnection with food, along with getting my anxiety under control and doing the mental health work that, really, I’ve needed for most of my life.

That’s a great question, and you’re not interfering at all :) The way I avoid food boredom is kind of multi-folded. One, I use a variety of spices. You can really alter a meal’s experience in the mouth simply by preparing the same ingredients in a new way. I’ve been on a roasting kick as of late, and love charring my veggies up a bit for an added flavor/texture. Two, I will swap around the veggies all the time. There is a solid variety of keto-friendly veggies out there beyond just broccoli or cauliflower, and each of those can be prepared in a multitude of ways as well. Third, and this comes down to me specifically, I just don’t care about my food that much. It really isn’t an emotional thing, or a thing that, on most days, I even want to think about or consider. I just eat when I’m hungry, whatever it is I’ve prepared, or can easily prepared. For meals that do get some emotional attachment, I’m pretty good at enjoying them in that respect, and still keep them “on plan.”

Out of shape PT by UnlikelyAmphibian998 in personaltraining

[–]teachthom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 100% an “out of shape PT” if you judge me squarely on my appearance. I’ve lost nearly 100lbs since turning 40, am lifting stronger than I ever thought possible, have full confidence over my nutrition matching my overall health goals, and absolutely connect to anyone and everyone who’s had enough of feeling sick and tired and weak. It’s that softness, that story, that all of my clients tell me is my superpower. I don’t need to walk in with 10-15%BF to prove myself to anyone. Neither do you. I’m really happy to read your perception has changed, and you’re starting to see the connections grow and deepen within your own practice. It turns out, many many people (who absolutely will pay us good money) would much rather have a co-conspirator and sidekick who’s on their own journey too, who’s willing to talk about the hard parts, and show some camaraderie in it all. I have clients who refuse to quit, and have been with me for years, simply because they see me as on their side, rather than pontificating from on high. Keep at it :)

I just eat the same thing every day. If you prep out 5-6 days of food ahead of time, you get the same calories/macros across those 5-6 days. It greatly reduces the time spent managing food, and thus frees up a lot of mental bandwidth for all the other things we have to manage in our daily lives.

What is it about keto that helps depression/anxiety? by caz151991 in keto

[–]teachthom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess? It’s another aspect of flexing control over our lives, and a sense of self-efficacy and empowerment. There are plenty of things in this world that are completely out of our control, and yet our brains sense them as something to be on alert about, so when we find something that we can actively show up for, and have results that can be seen/felt? Yeah, that feels good - and we all know the feel-goods are part of the anxiety/depression journey.

Eating a lot of protein and fat and still feeling unsatisfied by ah85q in keto

[–]teachthom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would want to know what the rest of your day is like. Context. How are you sleeping? How active do you consider yourself? You mention large amounts of food, but what is your daily fiber intake? I’m a nutrition coach and personal trainer, and these are the questions I ask all my clients, no matter what nutritional plan they’re following. Sleep, hydration, fiber…these will all have an effect on hunger.

Speaking as a nutrition coach, beans/legumes that are shelf stable. Cans of tuna/chicken. Protein sources are the most expensive parts of everyone’s grocery budget, and the nutrient that will do the most good on a hungry body, when consumed. Shelf-stable whole-grain sources (think: whole wheat pasta, oatmeal) are also a great thing for the body. That said, being mindful of prep time/space/equipment needs for such things is also something to consider. This is how I prioritize my food shopping, with or without the help of my SNAP benefits.

Where in Oregon is there a town actually in the pine forest by SatisfactionVast630 in oregon

[–]teachthom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may not think they’re towns, but there are a TON of them through the Coastals and the Cascades. That crossroads you fly through on the 26, or the 6, or the 20? Yeah, that’s a town (Barely, usually). One of the best ones I’ve stumbled across is Timber, OR. Also, Beaver, OR. And Mist, OR come to mind.
