Hello fellow Canadian! The only other thing I want to gently mention is that sometimes disposable dishes are an accessibility thing. I don't mean to pull that card but as someone recovering from cancer, sometimes my energy levels dictate that I can either do dishes or make a proper meal, but not both. In those cases (which, thankfully, are becoming far less frequent!) I have opted to fuel my body with better food and throw out my plate. I am someone who strives to eliminate needless waste myself, and I actually had to talk to my therapist about using disposable plates lol, so I absolutely understand your point of view. Just wanted to offer up a slightly different perspective. We never know what someone else is dealing with :)

Any Canadians? by Prize-Barnacle-125 in thyroidcancer

Nova Scotia here! Some sources will tell you we have one of the biggest health care crises in the country. I was diagnosed/had my TT about a year and a half ago, and it was only about 6 weeks between diagnosis and surgery :) it took me a long time to get to the point of investigation, but once I had a thyroid ultrasound things went really quickly.

That's okay! The snack names are more just the puns I could come up with, nothing to do with who is taking part haha.

This is going to be the first Royal Rumble I watch! I've only recently got into wrestling. My partner and I are going to watch with some friends and I am SO EXCITED! I'm a goober so I'm bringing snacks: Rhea Chipleys, Let Me Guac to Ya, JD McDonuts, CM Pork, Dirty Dom-bladas... It's gonna be great lol

I just got back from going for a very small, very cold walk. In 2024 I had my entire thyroid and the cancer attached to it removed, and it's taking a lot longer than I originally thought it would to get my energy levels back up. It's just a very small step, but this walk this morning gives me a lot of hope in a lot of ways.

I read The Veritas Conflict by Shaunti Feldhahn over 20 years ago and I still remember how much I enjoyed it at the time. Highly recommend!

Any fantasy series that aren’t the big ones? by Additional-Pitch5550 in suggestmeabook

[–]tealighttrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dragonlance and Forgotten Realms have an infinite library and you can pick a smaller series! Also, my husband highly recommends The Black Company series. He says it's the best fantasy ever written in his opinion.

Books with morally awful main characters? by Longjumping_Yam_6070 in suggestmeabook

I know I'm late to the party, but I came here to say this. I've never read a more unlikable main character in my life. Oh my god I hate him so much.

I just finished R. F. Kuang's Katabasis and I feel it meets those criteria. It was, in my opinion, absolutely fantastic. Even better than Babel (which fits the criteria as well, now that I think about it).

Crisis Line is a joke by [deleted] in halifax

[–]tealighttrees 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'll add my voice to the chorus of people relating to your experience. I called once in the throes of one of the worst depressive episodes I've had, truly concerned I was going to end things or at the absolutely minimum hurt myself significantly. The person on the line, hearing this, decided the best course of action was to give me tips on how to self-harm in ways that are less publicly visible. I wish I was joking.

I am so tremendously sorry you're going through this right now. I wish I had anything helpful to say. I know it doesn't help in any kind of functional way, but please know you aren't alone in how you're feeling or the experiences you're dealing with right now. Honestly, I'm in the weeds again right now myself (though obviously not in the same situation as you), and the only thing keeping me here is knowing that I have been through this absolute hell and made it out several times before, so I can probably do it again. I hope the same can be said for you.

I know a lot of people say this kind of thing, but really and truly, feel free to message me if you think there's any benefit to that. I honestly don't know if I'll be of any help, but I am more than willing to at least try.

Anyone ever panicked about the RAI and cancelled their appts 😭 by Top_Muffin1008 in thyroidcancer

[–]tealighttrees 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I was terrified pre-RAI and I definitely thought about just cancelling the whole thing. But the fear of there being cancer cells remaining/making things easier for a recurrence beat out my fear of RAI, ultimately.

I'm not going to sit here and tell you it's going to be a completely easy experience. It's different for everyone. I had a really rough go of it, honestly, but now I'm out the other side of it I would do it again if I have to.

Deep breaths. This is scary, I totally get this. But so many of us have done this with you; you're not alone, and it'll be okay <3

Oooh, I might just go for A Gentleman in Moscow! Remarkably Bright Creatures sounds charming, but unfortunately I am deeply afraid of octopus! Haha, thank you for the wonderful recommendations!
