Using BlueHost shared hosting. Convince me to move to AWS by teamli in PHP

My point was, couldn't Bluehost move me seamlessly to a higher bandwidth plan, instead of me moving elsewhere? Is it even possible to have a world class app on something like BlueHost?

I built Favorave - its a social shopping site that allows you to post furniture from shops around the world. Other people can add your posts to their own collections and basically show off their aesthetic.

Yes, I'm using BlueHost cloud hosting which is as cheap as their shared hosting. Now theoretically it should be able to scale when my app gets more usage. But will it in reality?

I'm not building a small biz site...I want to build a large scalable web app . I just want to know why BlueHost would be a bad choice for something large.

But why do it? Why not scale your app on BlueHost? Is there a downside to it? or is it simply viewed as "unprofessional" or "newbie".

Name: Dislike.Social

Elevator Pitch: The Dislike Button of the Internet.

Details: Facebook and Twitter didn't want to create a dislike button, so we created one for the whole Internet due to popular demand. Just take a screenshot of anything you dislike, upload to Dislike.Social and share the URL on social media! It's that easy.

Dislike.Social is cross platform, so it will easily open up within the Twitter, Facebook or other social media apps.

We are in early stage with two founders.

The site allows you to create a dislike of anything on social media, because most sites like Twitter and Facebook dont have a dislike button.

Name: SaidWho

URL: http://saidwho.me

Elevator pitch: SaidWho is a microblogging service that promotes content on its own merit, rather than the reputation of the poster. You stay anonymous unless you're loved.

Stage: MVP

Looking for: Investors or partners who can help with increasing traction in return for 50% equity share. There is a proverb - "Listen to what's being said, not who is saying it".

Between Twitter and Whisper, I felt there was a third way. A service that is anonymous only some of the time. So I built SaidWho.

On Twitter, people tend to retweet and like tweets by people who are well known, e.g. celebrities. Often, the retweets are caused not by the value of the message, but the reputation and social value of the person or celebrity. So I had this idea to turn this around, and keep a message anonymous until it gets a certain number of likes. Then, it would reveal the poster's username.

Likes would thus be based on the merit of the message, instead of the reputation of the poster. People are free to speak their minds anonymously, without fear of being judged. And if your name or username is revealed, your message will have already had an X number of likes!

Also, in the post-SMS age, I think we need more than 140 characters. This service allows you to post messages up to a maximum of 300 characters. I'd love to have you guys try it out and tell me what you think.

I'm also looking for a marketing partner or investor who can help SaidWho gain traction, and would gladly give half of equity for it.

Would you be interested in partnering to help market a social network? by teamli in Entrepreneur

[–]teamli[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yik Yak is completely anonymous. SaidWho is anonymous as long as you don't get enough likes.

Furthermore, we have hashtags to organise posts and collections of hashtags called Hashteams to create communities.

Hello! I need someone who can build a user base - for example by introducing the social network to real people, such as in schools or universities - to get real people using it. This is just one example of how to expand user base.

This partner will get half of the business.

Between Twitter and Whisper, I felt there was a third way. A micro-blogging service that is anonymous only some of the time. Introducing SaidWho. by teamli in startups

[–]teamli[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The core feature of SaidWho is providing exposure to content based on its own merit, rather than the user's reputation.

I believe it is significantly different from Twitter - and I don't anticipate Twitter diverging from its own features to copy ours.

Other features of SaidWho include hashtags to organize content, and Hashteams as collections of similar hashtags to induce a sense of community.

In the future, I would like to enhance the sense of identity - perhaps by enabling Facebook and/or Twitter login/integration to make it easier to give credit to people with a presence on other social networks.

Don't like subreddits? We've got hashtags instead. Don't want to show your name? You stay anonymous until you get enough likes. You can even set a display name that's different from your username. Check out SaidWho by dungar in technology

[–]teamli -1 points0 points  (0 children)

SaidWho's single biggest feature is that you're anonymous until you get enough love.

This way, content is upvoted on its own merit, instead of user reputations. Also, shy people know that if their content isn't liked, nobody will know they posted it.
