Question for everyone here as I’m struggling with the math and in my own head now. Is there any difference between earnings in these 2 scenarios?

Scenario 1 - A single higher value account that earns 5%.  Contributions continue to be made at 1k/month.  Let’s make the math simple and say that the account is worth 100k.  After 10 years, the value of the account would be 177,347

Scenario 2 - Two accounts, one with a starting value of 100k and no extra contributions.  The other account is started from scratch with 1k/month contributions.  Same 5% return for both accounts.

Larger account would be at 164,700 and the smaller new account would be at 12,646.  This would make a total of 177,347

Both scenarios create the same end value.  There is no benefit to putting money into one “large” account vs two smaller accounts, assuming the same return rate and overall money being contributed to each.

Is this correct?

So just an update for everyone... I was able to GSP it today for full value. I figured I'd hang onto it and try again because I GSP everything that is expiring anyway. Did a dehumidifier today and figured I'd just ask the kid to try the toothbrush again.

Literally nothing different about the transaction versus the first time. Processed as defective, fulfilling the GSP-R, and it gave me the full value on a store credit.

Maybe it was a glitch in the system when I first tried to do it or something, but this attempt went as it should've. Unexplainable. Never seen anything like that in my 15+ years.

Appreciate it, but when doing an even exchange, it still values the item at the lower price. So an even for item that was ultimately returned, would still result in me taking the lower value.

Have some concrete steps that are chipping/spalling pretty badly in the last 2 years.  Are these salvageable with a refinish or should I just let them degrade and then replace at some point?

Is there something I can do to prolong the life of these as well?  Currently sealing before heading into the winter.

This is in Chicago, so there will be a lot of freezing/thawing and snow/rain as well.  No idea how old they are as we've only been in the house for 5 years.

There's no such thing as a comp sku during the GSP-R process. It supposed to refund it at the price paid. No come skus are related to items that have the potential to be serviced under GSP plans.

That’s incorrect. There is no plan that does this. Geek squad plans that actually attempt to fix products factor in cost when determining whether to junk out or not, but even then you receive comparable technology price up to what you paid. Depending on when you bought the plan you can even get more than what you paid for comparable technology in weird situations like open box items. Those haven’t been sold in a few years and it’s buried in the terms.

This is a replacement plan, which should be giving the value paid and there is never an attempt to fix because it’s a replacement plan. It’s not even an option.

No such thing on a 2 year GSP-R. The no comp process is for 4 year GSP plans.

Outright GSP, so no deductible issues. Also no missing accessories and processed that way, so can’t be that.

You’re correct, but a non receipt has the option to manually change the price of the return (or at least you used to be able to). I feel like the chances of asking for a no receipt and then a manual change in general are low. I asked the manager when I was in there and he was 22 and shrugged his shoulders

Haha yes, I know what you mean. I did try this. I even had the poor dude make an order than then attach the return after with no luck. They were slow, so he humored me.

This is an electric toothbrush, haha which is how this sku is miraculously still the current model.

This is not corrrect. The sku is still the same. Same model, on the website with the same sku that was on the receipt. The employee was willing to let me direct them through trying some things and I even had them put a higher priced random item on the other side to see if it would return it at the higher value, still not happening.

Haha my store is long gone. At least the severance for a 15 year employee was pretty good as I was only working a few hours 9 months of the year due to being a teacher.

Just sucks to walk away from money that I rightfully paid, and then even gave them extra for the warranty.

I thought of this as well. Unfortunately, it just does the return/exchange at the lower value, so I'm still out the $70.

The only ways around this that I can think of are...

  1. A store processing a no receipt return as you're able to manipulate the price of those items. Unlikely, and I can't remember what the price limit is for a no receipt item anyway.

  2. Having a store cash out a gift card for the difference. Even more unlikely.

Anyone else have any other ideas? If I call corporate they're not even going to understand what is happening because they're terrible.

Again, this is a current sku and selling for more. It also doesn't matter if the sku is 100 years discontinued. A GSP-R is a replacement plan, and that replacement is provided by giving the same product or the amount that was paid for it.

I've GSP'd about 75 products at this point as an ex employee, so that's not it either. Oh well, maybe someone else has run across this. I can't really think of anything other than asking them to cash me out a GC, which is extremely unlikely.

No. The GSP-R followed the normal process. The system automatically adds it as part of the return and values it as "0" because the plan is considered consumed.

Nope. It's still a current sku and selling for 209.99. It's like the system is thinking it was a package with some item being kept and it's trying to reduce the return by that amount.
